Shots Fired - #gettlemagic

Nobody is really disagreeing in this thread.

Gettleman does well at being a emotionless and making the right business choices.

Hurney handed out contracts like candy.

Gettleman can learn that empathy and compassion are part of the business.

Hurney can learn that you can be a hard ass sometimes. And I think he probably has.

Smitty has a chip on his shoulder and always will.

Now can we sign Antonio Brown already?

There's a guy in New England who disagrees with you.

This is a dumb argument. Belichick doesn't treat his players like garbage and while he does cut them, he doesn't do so the way Gettleman does.

Just as many as Dave.  0!

the 15-1 season had Hurney players driving that season.

Not really. Lot of holes needed to be filled in that team with bargain vets, with literally ZERO cap space.

Ive met Smitty as well and talk with him a couple secs. He is definitely a different cat. He does act like everybody has it out for him. Very defensive. But when you grow up the way he did and always being small and all ways having to defend yourself, that becomes your mentality in life. So I get him and understand his position. I said a couple words to him and that's it.

I spoke with him on a personal level for a couple years on a weekly basis.

He needs help. And not in a goofy oh he's different way. In an anger control, poor worldview way.

That's generally the way it goes with great players. We're still looking for a replacement for Jordan Gross. The one position where we've had a near constant run of great players is MLB. For a franchise as young as ours, we've had an embarrassment of riches at that position.

I actually didn't mean finding a great player, but just someone that looks like a legitimate young threat at receiver. Replacing Smith with someone of similar greatness could take over a decade.

I hope we find Gross's replacement this year.

I think we finally have him in Moore. He played very well as a rookie while still being noticeably very raw. He's gonna be a stud.

Then again, who didn't think that about KB after his rookie season? So, we'll have to wait and see.

Lol then why couldn’t Hurney make the playoffs? Did you see Hurney’s 2008 to 2012 drafts when he didn’t have a top 10 pick? Those drafts were awful. I don’t give him any credit for building a shitty team that got the #1 overall pick. Wow, hard pick to take the top QB when the one you spent a 2nd rounder on sucked so badly.

Also, 80% of the OL was Gettleman. I believe the starting WRs were too. The DL was almost all Gettleman and the secondary was also 75% Gettleman. Most of the depth was as well.

2015 was Gettleman’s 3rd year. I don’t like a lot of the move’s that Gettleman made but 4 of the 5 teams he ran the draft and FAs for made the playoffs. Marty’s been back for one year of draft and FA and we’re back to missing the playoffs. I pray that he doesn’t have a bad offseason or else he may just end our run.

I think people can argue the biggest weaknesses on the team that year were the offensive line, and receivers.

You mean the OL ranked 2nd in the league that year. And kept Cam damn near spotless while leading a top ranked offense that lost its #1 WR before the season? The one with 2(should have been 3) Pro Bowlers?

A weakness huh? You’re trying to hard again.

You’d be 100% wrong on the OL. The 2015 OL was ranked top 5 pretty much anywhere you looked. PFF ranked us 2nd at the end of the season: https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-ranking-all-32-offensive-lines-this-season

There’s a reason why we went 6-10 in 2016 (aside from Ganope who blew a few games) and that was because we had one OL (Norwell) that played his true position all year. Having to play 3 different Cs, 2 different RGs, 2 different LT and 3 different RTs isn’t ideal.

I still say Michael Oher concussion put us in a tailspin we still haven’t recovered from. And caused most of those musical chairs.

Yep, we couldn't have seen that one coming. Also, hitting paydirt with a reclamation project in Oher probably gave us a little too much confidence we could repeat that with Kalil.

I'm sorry, but I don't put much stock into PFF. It was plain to see that the offensive line and receivers is what failed in the big game.
