There is no reason to keep Kalil around past March 14th. Nobody wants him. I’ll give an example. No one wanted Eric Reid and we signed him for a little over $1m last year. He played well enough that there was a demand for him and he gets paid over 5 times per year what we paid when he had 0 demand. Paying Kalil $7m as a just in case is dumb. Same with Torrey Smith. They gave us nothing last year and cost a lot. They aren’t going to win us games this year. Cut them and go cheaper. I’d take Clark and Mose Frazier as cheaper backups and use that $12m on real FAs that can help us win. Sign someone like Mathieu so we don’t “have” to draft a safety or Paradis so we don’t “have” to draft a center, etc.

There’s no light that can shed a reason on why you would ever keep both of them at their current salaries. Those two will be available much cheaper after the draft. That’s the same silly stubbornness that keeps talent on the bench until injuries.

Clark and Mose? Come on, man.  LOL

Love him, but Olsen should be added to that short list too. His blocking has never been at least average for what you'd expect from a TE. I'd rather have a third WR like Wright in anyway as another option with some shiftiness after that catch.

That's what I really liked about Gettleman. If you're not playing up to your contract, then bye-bye. Nothing personal. Gettleman would have released/traded Kalil by now. He has no issues accepting his mistakes and moving on.

The problem with Olsen was that Hurney threw an extension (he wasnt a FA until this year) his way after missing most of 2017 and then he missed most of last year. Now, there’s too much guaranteed to cut him in 2019 regardless of whether he can get back to 2016 form.

Unlike Kalil, we would lose $1m in cap space if we cut Greg. He only gets $2.9m in new cash for 2019, so it’s worth keeping him this year and hoping he’s healthy. It’s not really the same as Kalil where it’s blatantly obvious what we should do, but who knows what we will do.

We may not get the choice. That MNF job worries me.
