Jourdan Rodrigue does not believe we are getting rid of Tory Smith

You mean like cutting your backup RB and spending money to do it?

And if anyone, anywhere thinks Torrey is worth 5M, they have absolutely no clue about salaries and value. This is the same ridiculous argument as Matt Kalil. Let’s keep him at a horrible price because we don’t know what we can get. UDFAs could play at a similar level. Chris Clark just did. How hard is it to replace the worst hands in the NFL?

We're discussing Smith. The debate about CJ is a dead horse. Two entirely different situations!

At the moment there is zero reason to cut Smith. Perhaps that will change in the coming days, weeks or months, but today there are reasons to keep him.

Torrey Smith is three years removed from a 500+ yard season. He's shot. He isn't worth much more than veteran minimum and we're going to to pay him $5M because he's a nice guy in the locker room and Rivera is likely going to put him on the field in front of better, younger players because that's what Ron Rivera does.

That's what history tells us. But, keep thinking Ron and Hurney are changed men. Hell, they convinced Tepper of it. I'll believe it when I see it and the early looks don't appear promising.

And yet without Smith, the Eagles likely don't beat the Patriots to win their first Super Bowl...

Just because Smith is under contract today doesn't mean that he will be tomorrow.

Not when you bring Torrey up as insurance. It’s exactly the same. Except it actually cost us s money to do that to CJ. You said insurance.

What reasons if he’s not ever going to be worth 5M. And I don’t care about today. As has been pointed out repeatedly; the article says “keep him”. That’s the issue. You, and others keep making up scenarios that make keeping him on the roster has benefit. But none will say why?

David Tyree won the Giants a SB over the Pats with that miraculous helmet catch. That still didn't make him an NFL caliber WR. Kony Ealy would've been the SB MVP had we won that game. He still sucks.

Show me all these vets that you can get who have had comparable careers and skill set for under 5 mil per year.

Hahahahaha.

Torrey smith carried the highest cap hit of any receiver on the Panthers last season.

Torrey caught 17 passes for 190 yards...or good for 214th in the NFL.

He has the 41st highest salary cap of all WR's in the NFL this season, is coming off an awful season, in which he got hurt, counts zero against the cap if he's cut, and would immediately give us $5,000,000 in cap space with the stroke of a pen.

Yea, how on Earth could we possibly replace him?

And the fact that Smith actually has an NFL career means nothing...? Alright. LOL

Is anyone not okay with Moore, Samuel, CMC, Wright, and Olsen/Thomas? Smith is a 5th option in this offense and if they want to overpay him to be a player/coach, who cares

Because asst coaches don’t make 5M and sure don’t count on the salary cap.

In Torrey's defense, it's hard to be at your best when you are a fast, way way way downfield receiver and your QB can't get the ball out past 15 yards. We kept wondering why they were using him on short passing routes until we found out that was all Cam could throw.

Just like Funchess, it's foolish to judge a WRs abilities in a season where the QB can't really throw the ball. No one was able to operate in their best roles last season.

If Torrey does stay another season, I think we'll see much better results from him if Cam's arm can make a comeback.

Yea. no DJ (off the bench)made way more plays than Smith before and after Cam seemed limited

Agree

Larry Brown won a Super Bowl for the Cowboys amd Raiders over paid him because of it

Let's not be the Raiders

Both Cam and Smith had injuries that played a part in such a paltry amount. Plus, again, you're disregarding his entire body of work. Hell, you'd think that he was on a walker the way that some of you talk.

At this point.....it doesn’t. What should we pay for? The 2012 version. Or the recent version who struggles to stay healthy, has the worst hands in the NFL(FACT), aging quickly. You don’t pay for what they did. You pay for what you think they can do going forward.

And with that you sure wanna give him 5M this year for some reason?
