Ravens cut Eric Weddle

Now 247Sports is saying could Eric Weddle sign with Panthers. This may not be a wise option to use yet.

I would like Weddle depending on the price. Perfect stop gap and knows Rivera’s scheme. Tashaun Gipson is also available in a trade. DRC is coming out of retirement too. He’d be an intriguing option at FS.

Edit: Just checked Gipson’s contract. $9M per for the next 2 years. Too rich for my blood unless we trade and extend to lower his cap hit. He’s only 28. 

Also the Jags can cut him and save $7M in cap while being just shy of $2M in dead cap. So I would keep an eye on Gipson being cut if the Jags are unable to find a trade partner.

Weddle would be a fantastic signing, obviously we wouldn't give anything crazy, but we could still draft a safety to groom it would just be less of a risk or we can go full on defensive/offensive line.   With the defensive line issues we're going to have (or possibly) it wouldn't be a bad idea to bolster the secondary.

Top 10 FS last year.   He's not long term fix but it would would obviously be better than throwing a rookie out there and hoping for the best.

Wonder how much he’s asking for then. At least it shows the Panthers are looking for a FS. I hope this is genuine interest and not the Panthers trying to low ball Weddle or just getting more of Ron’s boys.

I bet they could make the numbers work without Torrey Smith's money on the books.    How many years has safety been bad for us?
