I really can't understand what we are doing with him, but it's feeling more and more like he will not be cut this offseason.

I honestly don't think the front office knows yet either. We have to make a call on him by 3/13. FA kicks off on 3/11. I don't think there's any harm on keeping him on the roster for the time being until we maybe get some clarification once FA kicks off. If we don't sign a legit option at OT, then we have a decision to make. Give Kalil another $7M and carry him on the roster or cut bait on him and hoist a giant flag over BOA to the rest of the league that we're going to be forced to take an OT early in the draft and hope he's ready.

I think that we are waving that flag already...it just happens to say OT/DE.

I think I would prefer we let DW go, and keep Kalil....depending on whatever is going on with that knee.  Keep Moton at RT, and hope that we can land a LT in the draft.  I don't know, all of this is a mess, and Hurney and Ron making the calls has me nervous as hell.

I think it all depends on that knee. If his knee is healthy and some team doesn't throw ridiculous money at him, I think we have to re-sign him.

I'm on the move on from Kalil no matter what train.

Hurney has a tendency to not let players test free agency before signing them long term.  That is my biggest fear with Daryl.  Also, I do not believe him to be an upgrade over Moton...in fact I think Moton is much much better.

At the end of the day, I just don't trust Hurney with long term contracts...and I'm guessing without a really good season this year, we will be cleaning house in 2020....want as few top heave long term deals on the books if that happens.

At the end of the day, I just don't think that DW is that good, he is coming off a serious injury, and is looking to break the bank.  All of that sounds like a bad mixture to me.

When he was healthy in 2017, absolutely. He was dominant in the run game and pass protection. Granted, it was only a 1 year sample size before last year's injury but I think there's no doubt he has the ability to be a top 5 OT in the league.

wasn't there a stat recently that most of his plays required help? as for tagging, nope. let him test market.

I don't think it would take that much to keep him.

I honestly have no idea. RTs generally don't get huge money in general and a lot of DW's value will depend on the medical evaluations of his knee. If we could retain him for market value RT money I'd do that in a heartbeat and move Moton to LT.

Sadly, Daryl overvalues his services. It stinks, I would have loved to see him stay but RT is not the position I would be willing to pay that kind of premium for, and that was pre-injury. If the price was 8 million or less with a respectably ditchable contract after 2 years, I would consider it a viable option. I haven't seen anything to indicate that is even possible though. The whole medical evaluation is a huge hurdle for him right now.

I'm 100% with you there.

You're worth what the market says you're worth. If someone gives it to him then he didn't overvalue anything.
