He would have been a great Thomas Davis replacement.

A little shocked Dave didnt tag in hope of reaching a long term deal, you can not let great young talent leave ................. unless they play DB.

Landon plays in the box a lot, but he's still a safety.  He wouldn't be a LB with us... he would play Eric Reid's position.... but since that's already taken, he ain't coming here

Wait a minute... are we any better off with Hurney????

Nope. Both had/have major issues. Time to upgrade. It's been time.

I'm over gettleman. I'm not over taking a step backward to bring back Hurney.

Collins actually has coverage skills unlike Reid

What?

No he doesn't. He's one of the worst coverage safeties in the league.

When he first entered the league in 2015, Collins was used as a true free safety and played deep down the field en route to an underwhelming overall grade of 49.2, which was the third-lowest grade among safeties that year. Then, in 2016, Collins was moved to strong safety and played much closer to the line of scrimmage and his grade sky-rocketed as he earned a spot on the PFF top 101 for two straight years. For such a turn to take place, it should be obvious that Collins is much better suited for playing as a box safety, and that’s the role he should play on his new team if he wants to reclaim his spot as one of the league’s best safeties.

Landon Collins can return to his 2016 and 2017 form, but, again, it must be as primarily a box safety. This past season, Collins had 23 run stops when lined up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage, ranking second among safeties. In other words, Collins tackled running backs for losses or short gains more often than most when lined up close to the action.

Dudes a really good in the box safety, but that's it. You don't pay top dollar for one trick ponies like that.

So your using pff as a valid course now? But when they criticize someone on our roster they don’t know what they are talking about

If we hadn't just resigned Eric Reid and had more pressing needs at other positions I would be all about it, but we have a SS now with Reid AND he can play FS on occasion.

Seems like most of the Giants fans in the reddit link that was provided understand their cap situation and that more than $10M for a SS when they still have so many other needs isn't where it's at.

I mean anybody who watches him play can see he gets abused in coverage regularly. QB's had crazy stats when targeting him in coverage.

EDIT:

Here are the stats when targeting him:

That's really, really bad. For comparison's sake, here's Reid's:

And we got him for a fraction of the cost.

I think we're alright.

Lol at quoting Reddit as a source. Seriously, if NYG fans have anything to be mad about it's an owner that won't let EM go and move on. Letting an overpriced slow Safety go because he cost too much and you are facing a complete rebuild, and have been before Gman got there, is sad but it's great it's happening in that market because it will at least be entertaining. Bash Gman for the things he said in front of a mic, absolutely stupid even if it was dead on. But not for letting a guy go that will absolutely net you a comp pick on a half sunk and on fire ship. Someone is overpaying this dude and we will hear about how he is available or on the cut cusp in 2 years, at least as a rummer.
