Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

He doesn't know. Thinks oline or db. He is not apart of the Panthers organization.

That would be the most Panthers move ever to reach on an OL or DB in a realtively weak top end class for those position groups while having a huge need for pass rushers and quite possibly the strongest pass rusher class in recent memory if not ever. I just can't see that happening. Not with a Rivera coached team. No way he'll value DB > pass rusher.

Yep. It would have to be Greedy, and all the  top DT/DEs are gone. Or I would be pissed too.

I wish there was a way we could come out of the first 2 rounds of this draft with an elite-level edge rusher (prefer Sweat) and Adderly.

I am wondering if Adderly makes it out of the first round and we could trade up in the 2nd

I know you mentioned prior to the combine that they he wasnt high on Brian Burns due to his size.

I was concerned abiut that as well prior to the combine

Whats his thoughts on Burns now post combine after he showed up at 250? I thought Burns absolutely tore it up.

Also how many Edge rushers does he think can go top 15? And if that may push a Jonah Williams out of the 15 spot to our range?

With D. Williams not returning to the Panthers, I would rather spend money on Trey Flowers (DE)  to address the pass rush, which would free up the draft to pursue an Olineman. That would also allow the Panthers the chance to trade down and pick up another draft pick or two.

I heard he has a nice ability to drop in zone coverage as well. His biggest problem 'round these parts, is the Everett Brown stigma.

He thinks he answered the tweener question pretty well, but still has his doubts about him as a hand in the dirt kind of guy. Says he definitely helped himself though.

Jonah Williams could definitely get pushed down to us.

He can keep on sliding right past us.

I'm hoping this deep safety FA class pushes some of the safeties to the 2nd round. Would love a shot at Adderly or Gardner-Johnson for us.

I dont think Adderly falls out.  Dont think there will be more than 2 Safeties go in the 1st and probably later round.

This is good for us.  Deep Safety FA market pushes the need for most teams down here.  And with this deep Draft class added onto top.  We coupd get a stud starter in the 3rd

I don't think Adderly drops out of the 1st either. I'd be tempted to take him at 16 depending on what we do in FA to address the pass rush.

If Thompson Blows up his Pro Day and over takes him. He might then

I doubt it. How many safeties who have gotten 1st round talk have ended up going in the 2nd or even the 3rd in recent years? Now woke small school guy who wasn't an to compete in the Combine is seen as a 1st round lock? Nah, I'm selling that.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
