Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

Hey Verge. Thanks for your information as always.

Could you ask your friend what his take is on Will Grier? Does he have it? Would he be available in the third? Personally I don't think he's getting the recognition he should. At least not the right kind. His college career isn't bad and people seem to focus on his showing recently. I think he'd be a great QB and wouldn't mind getting him in the third or fourth.

I wonder if the Cardinals would take Carr and the Raiders' first rounders to swap picks?

Gruden gets rid of the Carr contract and gets Murray, a QB he really likes.

The Cards get the #4 and the  #27 picks AND Carr.

The Cards could then package the #4 and #27 pick and move up to #2 if they wanted for Bosa.  Or they could sit tight and take on of the Bama Williams linemen (DT or OT) at #4.

SF is sitting in a sweet spot.

Why would the Cardinals want Carr or his contract? If they don’t believe in Rosen, they will be taking Murray.

-Expectations are three QBs within the top 12 picks

-Daniel Jones should be the second quarterback taken within the top 10

Any questions you have, feel free to drop them here, and I will float them in his direction.

Verge, does your guy think the Panthers will look to draft a QB this year?

If not, does he have an opinion on how Hurney plans to deal with the QB situation over the short-run (1-2 years) and long-run (5 years +).....??

I desperately want better lines but the idea of moving Jackson to nickle and having 3 effective and different options at CB is very interesting and intriguing. I guess with all of the talent in this draft around our pick, is there CB depth down the road or is it something we couldn't duplicate in this draft? I agree we should be playing 3 CBs a hell of a lot more. Dump the Joker attempt  and get on with better matchups.

Agree--but I  am like you--if we leave the first round without  a DE or OT,  the pick better be good.  Greedy, Action Jackson, and Bradberry with Reid at SS---nice.

However, without a pass rush you can put the best DBs in the NFL back there and it does not matter.
Of course, free agency can set you up to do it.

Zach Allen by this point might fall to 3rd or lower. He has not been impressive in either senior bowl or combine. I did like his tape though.

I can't see that, latest would be early second. You don't find many guys who eat up space like he does.

Kinda worried Sweat just catapulted himself out of our range with today's showing.

But, man, am I glad we won week 17, though!

Yes, he definitely increased his draft stock. Just keep in mind there is going to be a run on QBs, and that will push certain prospects down, probably not Sweat though, 4.4 is insane.

He sees Greir as an okay backup prospect, very limited shot at a starter type role, and would look for him in the 5th or later.

He doesn't have any sort of inside track into Carolina, but they all do sort of talk with each other, he said he feels like we will definitely draft one for insurance.

Verge, does your friend use high school recruiting rankings or film to scout college players?

He has a subset area to scout, so through the year he will be responsible for 'x' number of schools within a marked district. The high school ratings system definitely helps to know who exactly might break through, but watching the games and film later, just to see who jumps off the field is the most consistent way to do it.

There was discussion in another thread about high school rankings being pertinent to nfl scouting. I dont see how that's prudent

I know for sure they look at high school tape and use at as a reference for character, but the ranking itself is probably for did the player meet or rise above expectations, etc

Would a player who did not meet expectations be given the benefit of the doubt because he was once considered a top prospect? Seems scouts would only comment/note what they see in person not what a lower level scout saw at a lower level of the game.
