Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

I'd rather trade down than draft Dillard or just sit tight and take Christian Wilkins.

I can't shake just how damn awful Dillard looked during Senior Bowl week.

Where did you get this idea from?  It's totally false.  In fact, many reports called him one of the winners of senior bowl week.

Coug Andre Dillard a big winner after first Senior Bowl practice

Rob Rang, the senior analyst at NFL Draft Scout who has provided CF.C readers with a ton of draft insight over the years, included Dillard in his list of the six-best players he saw practice for the South team on Tuesday.

The Hottest NFL Draft Prospects Coming out of Senior Bowl Week

OT Andre Dillard, Washington State

"He won most of his reps, often against the FBS sack record-holder Jaylon Ferguson of Louisiana Tech," Hasan wrote. "He entered the game having to prove that he could run-block—mostly because the Mike Leach offense disdains running the ball—but he did an effective job of it."

Matt Miller's Scouting Notebook: Latest Insider Buzz from 2019 Senior Bowl Week

—Another big riser for the week is Washington State's Andre Dillard. He's firmly in the conversation to be the first offensive tackle drafted if he can continue his strong predraft performances. Dillard has the size (6'4⅞", 311 lbs) and length that Alabama's Jonah Williams doesn't and checks the boxes as a very good athlete.

These are just a small sample of the things that were being said about Dillard at the senior bowl.  I get why some are not high on him, but the idea that he didn't have a good senior bowl week is a false narrative.  He wasn't perfect by any means, but he was still very good overall.

You mean like this

Where he had to play in a non gimmick offense that helped him.  And played vs actual competition like the weak competition he faced

Kid has tools but going to be a big project who will really struggle early.  We need guys to make a impact Now

A lot of cherry picking going on here.  No, he wasn't perfect and had some plays where he struggled, but he also had some where he did well.  Regardless, be careful putting too much stock into an all-star game.  Just like the combine, it's a tool in an evaluation, but there are far too many variables to take it as gospel.

All it provides for evaluators is another piece to look at and go back and review more tape if necessary.  And if you go back and review what he did in real games, he is an elite prospect...and that's pretty much universally agreed upon by most scouts and evaluators.  No, he's not a perfect prospect, he clearly has some flaws he needs to improve on, but most professionals are high on him and very few, if any, would say we reached or took a bad gamble.

So, if he's the pick, he's worthy of being taken at #16, and I'll be happy...even though my preference at OT would be Cody Ford.

He is not worthy of the 16 pick LMAO. He won't be the pick only way he is pick is if we trade back to tail end of first.

I wish everyone that wants him would watch this. We need a starter from round 1,2, and 3 for this team to compete. No projects, if that's the case we are in for another long damn season.

Still want him...he will play plenty right away ...

I believe some of the smokescreen articles. Dillard has shorter arms than Jonah but Jonah gets the short arms label? I have seen Jonah mocked 3-5 plenty of time just like the teens etc.

i believe there are teams that put that stuff out there so some shmuck believes it and drafts that guy instead of THE guy,.. the guy as in the better one drops to said team.

That guy goes on to bust,.. like many thought. There’s a lot of articles on draft shananigans

If you think GMs and ther scouting teams are paying attention to what any dude is writing online and drafting accordingly then it’s you that is delusional. No way teams are taking these dudes input so seriously that they are changing their draft boards. I really don’t think that any teams give a fug what anyone other than their own hired experts have to say.

@LinvilleGorge I know you can not stand Little, Dillard or Gary. So who do you like that's rated around the Panthers pick? Your top three favorites.

I have no idea where Sweat or Burns are going to go, but I'd love either with Sweat > Burns. Outside of those two, I'd be perfectly content with Clelin Ferrell or Christian Wilkins. I really wish there was a FS this year to include in the conversation, but I just don't think there is.

I honestly don't want an OT in the 1st because outside of an injury I doubt he'd play as a rookie. I know a lot of fans want to take an OL to play LG this year and then move to OT next year, but I'm not a big fan of that idea.

I completely agree. I actually feel pretty good about out OL after what we did in FA. If this group stays healthy then it’s set up to do pretty well I think.

DL is another story. We could not bring pressure last season. If we don’t take a DE at 16 then it better be because we are moving back and adding picks. DE or trading back are the only two options I see.

Ours does.

Hurney has admitted that he buys and reads the annual draft previews you see in the stores.

The way he used to draft it sure seemed like he used all of our resources to figure out our 1st round pick then went straight to the media draft guides for the rest of the draft. I'm only partially joking.

As much as I would probably like to believe this is true for the laughs..... you’re just kidding aren’t you? If you show where he actually says that, I might pass out laughing.

That's your opinion, and that's fine.  But pretty much every legitimate analyst agrees that he is worthy of a mid-first round pick...and some even think he is worthy of top ten.  I'm not advocating for the guy since I have other OT's I'd prefer if we go that route, but I do recognize that he wouldn't be a reach at #16.
