Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

Draft Related Note: If the Panthers are interested in adding some new blood to their scouting department, it sounds like there are going to be some guys available soon.

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and GM Mike Mayock have reportedly sent all of their scouting staff home until the draft is over. It's reportedly because they "don't know who to trust" in the war room.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that some or all of those guys will be hitting the road once the draft is over.

@Verge, hope your friend doesn't work for the Raiders. He might wanna start updating his resume' if he does.

Because they’re friends? That might be helpful for the character question but I don’t think it’s close to relevant for whether or not he’s a good NFL player.

Sure, teammates may be friends but that's an easy answer though not necessarily an accurate one.

All this Dillard hate is coming from where?  Seems like it could be from dumb-asses who know next to nothing about him but what some pro/con page says.  Like Burns and so many other kids he's a work in progress needing good coaching to reach his potential. And like 90% of kids there are no guarantees what you'll get in the end. Dillard seems to of had little coaching in regards to run blocking, which doesn't mean he can't block.

We might be one of them.

Yes, we had Star Lotulelei. We also have Curtis Samuel whose status looks good but could still be a bit of a concern and might make us think twice before taking on another player with a heart issue.

It ultimately depends on the particulars of Sweat's situation.

I think the opposite. With QBs and maybe a reach or two, we should get one of those top 16 consensus guys. What it also means to me is that we should get two good guys at 47 and 78 and that we shouldn’t be shy to maybe use a 2020 pick to push our 101 pick into that low 70s area and come away with 4 top 75 players. It would probably need to be a 2020 3rd but that would mean getting an edge, tackle, FS and either another OL, edge or DT all in the top 75 prospects. I think that would be worth it and you still have an early 4th and 5th/6th.

A couple of those 16 might be QBs.  Either way I do agree that we should be able to get one of those 16 at 16 but it just depends on who it is.

Would you feel the same if it was Bush or Hockenson.  Would you take one of those 2 over Ford and an extra 3rd?

Well, that's good for a lot of reasons :)

I know post-draft is a common time for teams to do scouting department purges, but that's more common for teams that have had GM changes and such. Pretty sure the Raiders were the only team that fired their GM last year.

And and let's face it: Gruden is the real power there anyway.

Interestingly enough, he has talked about retiring and pursuing his degree (sports medicine), so who knows if he will be doing that anytime soon.

From SB Nation:

Enter Andre Dillard, the former Washington State Cougars standout, who is an ideal fit for the Panthers with his technically sound pass-blocking ability. Dillard is one of the top pass protectors in this year’s draft class, and while his run blocking needs some work, the Panthers can scheme around that while he learns on the job.

The Panthers also need to address their lack of edge rushers, but with most of the top prospects at defensive end off the board, they will take the best offensive tackle remaining to protect their franchise quarterback.

Analysis: This pick brings up a positional value discussion. Which has more value for the Carolina Panthers: a tackle like Dillard or an end like Rashan Gary of Michigan? Gary, for me at least, has a higher grade. But Dillard, arguably, has great positional value in protecting quarterback Cam Newton. It may also be easier to find an edge player in later rounds than a true left tackle.

One game is MEANINGLESS!  Get a life.
