Which would make the Panthers 16th pick worth even more to a QB-needy team looking to trade up

If anything Dave Gettleman’s pre-draft press conference only reiterated my belief that the Giants are WAY more likely to draft a QB at No. 17 than 6.

If we do decide to field offers for #16, I'd give G-man a call with a chance to beat the best offer on the table. You know this team is coming up for your QB, so if you want him beat this offer.

No he doesn't. Either his shoulder gets healthy or it doesn't which is completely independent of any roster competition. He doesn't need to be "challenged".

Hypothetically speaking, would it be a bad thing if he were?

Absolutely. Any decision on picking a QB that high should be heavily predicated on the status of Cam's shoulder. Spending a 2nd round pick on a "challenge" to your 29 year old former MVP QB is an idiotic use of resources. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Taking a QB at #47 means ignoring another obvious need to do it.

See, I don't generally have an issue with anybody being challenged, whether it be Cam, Luke or anyone else. At the very least, you wind up with good depth.

That said, I don't see a second round quarterback pick constituting a "challenge".

Exactly...at this point outside motivation not needed...

When you have a 37 year old QB that talks about retiring every off season,  I would hope they would think about it.

The question is more towards the talent available at QB in this draft...still better with who they already have...

I don't either, it just goes back to my "nothing happens in a vacuum" comment.
