Maybe we could get this guy in the 2nd now? Any thoughts?

At this rate he could probably be had in the 3rd. He’s a very good pass rusher. His workouts are dropping him like a rock. I think Burns/Sweat in the 1st and Polite in the 3rd would help us transition permanently into a 3-4.

Hey guys, it's that time of the year again, and my guy has been giving me some info about this years draft class. For those who don't know, my friend works within a scouting department of an NFL team, not the Carolina Panthers, and he has been kind enough to kind of help me learn to scout, write scouting reports, and leak me some info as far as what the general public might be missing in the NFL draft.

-Kyler Murray is believed to be the #1 pick in this draft, regardless of if the Cardinals keep or trade the pick
-Expectations are three QBs within the top 12 picks

-Daniel Jones should be the second quarterback taken within the top 10
-Expect Andre Dillard and Jonah Williams to volley for the #1 offensive lineman off the board
-He does not believe a corner will be taken in the top 10

Prospects he thinks will be potential first round picks that not enough people are talking about:
Jaylon Ferguson, DE, LOUT
Zach Allen, DE, BC
Amani Oruwariye, CB, PENN
N'Keal Harry, WR, ARST
Nasir Adderly, S, DEL
Parris Campbell, WR, OHST
Hakeem Butler, WR, IOST

Obviously, not all of them will go in the first as this is kind of a numbers game in a straight up "loaded" draft, but he feels as though these guys would be a first rounder in most drafts.
Any questions you have, feel free to drop them here, and I will float them in his direction.

Ferguson is a name that I've seen all over the place, from the fourth round up to the top of the 2nd. You still think that he might sneak into the 1st round? I had an eye on him as a possible 3rd round pickup. I think he has skills, but the small school mystique and getting kicked out of the combine should have made him drop a bit.

Here is  how I see the draft talent in areas we need help:

In the first three rounds, we should grab a S, OG, DT, DE/Edge, CB.

I do not see talent at those positions beyond the third.

I think we could grab a developmental T in the fourth.

Would take polite in the early third if he’s still there, low risk reward. Drew lock Lmao be the best qb in the draft, and I could see us going wr earlier than normal if the value is there.

Wonder how they have the safeties ranked.

Even if we’re in win now can’t ignore a top 5 talent in Simmons if he falls to our 2nd round pick

I think Ferguson and Polite are dropping. Too deep a class for both of them to have off the field issues (Ferguson want invited to combine and Polite bombed interviews) and then not have good workouts. IIRC, Ferguson had a not so good pro day as well.

In this class, no chance they go 1st round. I’d even be surprised at 2nd round. There are always those guys that drop way more than expected and with how they’ve done, they are putting themselves in that bucket. Would you rather draft a Khalen Saunders or Daylon Mack at DT who had solid Senior Bowls/combines or one of the many LG potential guys or draft a potential bust throwing red flags at you?

Yep. With all the edge rushing talent this year it's going to really hurt these guys who tanked their workouts.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
