our qb problems start with training camp...

first off let me say ill try my best not to point all the blame on jake, while its certainly a hare thing to do at the moment. i know its well documented and been pounded in the ground on here that our current coaching staff doesnt develope quaterback talent. truth be told mr. fox prefers to hit the f/a wire for backups, its been said he cant justify spending a draft choice on a player that may take years to come to fruition.

that being said, i think our current qb problems go back to how coach fox handles training camp. i can handle picking up a f/a qb here and there as need be, though i wish we would have at least tried to draft a decent one here and there through the years. what i cant understand for the life of me is why mini-camp and preseason year after year is not an open camp? by that i mean they(fox and co.) basically say jake is the starter before camp basically starts. if theres no competition, how can a person/athlete grow or get better? its a two-edged sword i beleive. if jake knows theres no chance to lose his job if he just stays the same player he was last year, does he have the drive to get better?? granted he had a surgery thats hard to come back from, but i beleive COMPETITION motivates a person to get better.

on the flip side of this, all we hear is how matt moore has regressed during his stay here. honestly guys, put yourself in matt's shoes, how would you like to have a job where theres no room for advancement, jakes job has been untouchable for years now, no matter who the backup is? i could see how matt would be discouraged knowing no matter what he does fox is sticking with jake. that could be one reason for matt's regression. i know personally its hard to give 100% every day on a job that i know i had no room for advancement. and on top of that, isnt matt's regression a result of having an incompetent coaching staff in terms of qb developement? my opinion is alot is made on here about how matt moore isnt the answer, matt moore has regressed, he isnt what he used to be. i blame the coaching staff for not lighting a fire in these player through competition, where the best player wins the spot wether it's a rookie or a veteran. COMPETITION BREEDS EXCELLENCE in my opinion!

There is a certain amount of loyalty you have to have in your starting QB. Otherwise he can't play with confidence. Obviously Fox has had a little too much of that loyalty in Jake. But yes I do agree his job security and the lack of competition has made him weak as a player. There was a point in time when Jake was on the stepping stone to being a great QB. 04, 05, and the short time in 06 comes to mind. Maybe Jake just says all the right things and he really isn't working as hard as he thinks. Who knows.

He has always been a shaky player to watch that is for sure. As of right now he has to sit on the bench because: A) He sucks balls right now and B) If he's not taken out now anything left he has as a QB will be broken for sure. Not like there is much hope for his career anymore anyway.
