Matt Kalil a panther in 2019?

I don't think you play a guy at RT stimply because he's a better RT than he is a LT. Hell, virtually all OTs are. It's an easier position to play. Gross was better on the right side too. He probably could've been a HOF RT, but instead he was a very good LT. A very good LT is more valuable than a HOF RT.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch Chris Clark dance around like an uncoordinated toddler again.

Fortunately for you, you're a Panthers fan. There's a decent chance you'll get to watch Kalil perform similarly while make a lot more money until he inevitably winds up on IR again at  which point we're forced to play some other also entirely hapless warm body at LT.

Kalil has better technique than Clark. Hell, Byron Bell had better technique than Clark.

Kalil stinks primarily because his body isn't up to the task.

This has to be a smoke screen. If Matt Kalil is in the plans for the Panthers in 2019, then why didn’t they bring him back in the 2018 season when he was healthy?

Clearly, the left tackle position was a major weakness to the Panthers in 2018. I thought the the reason why they did not bring him back, was because they did not want him to get injured so they could release him.

This echoes my thoughts as well.

The Roaring Riot posted an interesting article yesterday on the case for Kalil being on the roster in 2019 and why cutting him now might not be the best move....

Agree with him. It’s better to have Kalil and Moton at T than Moton at LT and pay a boat load to Williams for RT, especially when Williams always had help on his side.

Sigh...

It is what it is.

Paying a guy to simply go away though, no matter how bad he is, doesn't make as much sense when you can pay him the same amount to stick around and hope he provides something. Hopefully Daryl stays, we draft a guy, and we have the league's most expensive backup.

This isn't accurate though. Kalil would still he cashing game checks for his salary this season if he's on the roster. If we cut him, he's seen his last money from the Panthers. Yes, we will have cap implications either way but this narrative that we can keep him for the same amount of money as cutting him is just wildly inaccurate.

This might be a false dichotomy. But I'd rather ride out Matt's bad contract and keep him at LT and keep Moton at RT.

Then for us to eat the cap paying Matt to cut him, paying Darryl Williams a boatload (v overrated player) and moving Moton to the left.

In one scenario we don't lose money, in one scenario we lose a lot of money and keep a below average player for a bunch of money

Unless it's a June 1st cut then it would cost more to cut him then to pay him to be on the roster. If he manages to make 16 games then 750k is added in ltbe incentives for his roster bonus. That's the difference but still more expensive to cut him then to play him. Cut him next offseason where it saves the team 5m instead of using a June 1st cut on him and getting a cap hit of 5m this season and 10m next season. If he provides anything of value to the team then it's a win, if not then oh well.

No. Stop. In no scenario will the Panthers pay Maty Kalil more money to cut him than they would to keep him on the roster. Cap hit doesn't mean cash payment.

Didnt say pay, I said it would cost more to cut him then to pay him. if he stays, the team is giving him game checks and roster bonuses per game. The cost factor is accurate. It's gonna cost more to cut him unless it's a June 1st cut. You jumped to conclusions without reading my post because you've already made your mind up on the matter.
