Just for the record on the number of breweries:

That is not really a beer festival, more like Mardi Gras. The German purity laws means that there is typically very, very little variation in their beers. They make good beer but you will never see the kind of variation that you will see in the US.

Was kindofa joke.

And the beer there is fantastic.  I'm a big IPA drinker, and will pretty much drink any beer you put in  front of me that's quality, but Oktorberfest is an absolute blast, and IMO nothing at all like Marti Gras.

If you haven't been to Munich, you need to start saving up now...the "beer scene" there is different than anything in the US.

I'm praying the London game is the first weekend in October so I can stop in Munich first. (but it's not going to be)

It's September 21-October 6 this year.

Go ahead and order some Lederhosen and get weird over there.

P.S. the German girls in the Dirndl's are....uh....something else.

I’m in Munich at the end of August-ish and beginning of September-ish.

Was hoping I could switch dates to accommodate the London trip but that isn’t gonna happen, can’t wait til November .

The big Oktoberfest isn't at that time, but do yourself a favor and run over to Rosenheim for a mini fest.  Aug 31-Sept 15 this year.

It's worth it.

Yeah, Germany is on the bucket list. I want to hit Belgium first. Go to Cantillon and hit some of the Trappist spots.

That is why I was skeptical of the 10-15k mark being reasonable. 100 breweries and all those people on the field. That might be a zoo. I wonder if it will extend into the concourse.

Pssssssshhhhh.

Want to check out a beer fest, head on over to Munich in Sept/Oct.

That was a freaking blast.

I never went to the Munich fest when stationed in Germany simply because of everyone there telling me how much more crowded and expensive it was compared to the smaller Volksfests. We always took an ICE train from Mannheim and went to Stuttgart and had an absolute blast at their fest.
