Bank of America Stadium to host inaugural Untappd Beer Festival

I think it's hilarious that everyone is this thread are talking about hipster douches when they're the "craft brew" douches.

Take it for what it is. No matter who attends, Tepper is adding value to our stadium and growing the brand. If you don't care for beer festivals, don't go, but don't poo on the people that do attend. They can be a lot of fun if you make it. And yeah, there's going to be drunk people, it's a beer festival? There will be bros, there will be hipsters, there will be women, there will be normal, middle of the road people.

Sincerely,

Not a hipster, but also not an "IPAs Are Life, Every Other Beer Sucks" dude.

Admittedly, I haven't had anything from you guys. I have had some pretty decent stuff from High Branch out in Concord. What kind of stuff are you guys making right now?

We have a pretty good variety. If you like IPA’s our New England Hazy called Reptar Juice is pretty incredible.    If you like bitter hops our imperial IPA Viking Spider might be up your alley.

I enjoy Belgians and Hefeweizens and I think our Hefe is pretty solid, very similar to Hoegarden. We also have a Belgian Triple that tastes a lot like Chimay.

Our coffee porter Second Rodeo Joe is tasty and our oatmeal stout is pretty approachable.

Honestly most of our beers are quite good and we feature a weekly tator tap for small batches.

The only thing we don’t have right now is an Amber Ale. But those are pretty boring to be honest .

I pretty much like most beer styles. Not a big fan of Rauchbiers(or really most smoked beers), grisettes, ESB's. Not that I won't drink them, I just haven't had many that impressed me.

Belgian beer was what originally got me into the beer world, so I still enjoy all those styles.

Next time I am in Concord hitting up High Branch, I will definitely stop in and check you guys out.

Im a Coor's light, Yuengling, Rollin Rock, Carolina blonde, Fat Tyre drinker.. I dont know if this will be fun. I really dont drink anymore as I used to. Looks like it will be a hoot. any recommendations from the beers I listed?

Pilsners, lagers, blondes and ambers? There should be some of those there, I would think. Especially lagers and pilsners as they have been getting the "craft" push recently. It will be fun if you like to try new breweries and new styles of beers. A lot of it depends on if you have an adventurous palette. Have you ever been to any beer festival before?

Okay, this will be a little different vibe just because it is a solely beer event rather than a music festival/beer event. There are 40 breweries on the bill so far(probably at least 10-30 more to be announced, I would guess) each with 2-4 beers on tap. That should provide plenty of options to try and maybe some new breweries to discover. I am guessing this will end up being a pretty laid back. Some of the more "hardcore" beer events can be pretty intense and frantic.

You will get a sample glass and basically the ability to roam around and have unlimited samples from any of the stations. As long as the stations aren't swamped, a lot of the breweries will have some pretty helpful staff that kind give you a good idea if it is something you will like or not and also general information on the beer and brewery. It's all included in one cost, so don't feel bad about tasting something and then dumping it if you don't like. . I don't know what the general rules are but if they allow outside water bottles, I would suggest bringing one. It's valuable for cleansing your palate between beers, rinsing the glass(not sure if they will have rinse stations or not) and hydrating in between stops so you aren't blackout drunk two hours into the event.

The regular ticket is $50 for 4 hours of access. Even if they are only pouring at 3-6 oz, it won't take long to do a lot of damage and get ample bang for the buck. I mentioned VIP access earlier(VIP tickets are $200 or $65 depending on option). The early access can be nice because you can cut down on the crowd for about an hour or so. The biggest benefit of that early access is the chance to hit "high value targets" prior to the people crush when the rest of the crowd shows up an hour later. Since it sounds like you are not a crazy beer nerd, it is probably not something you will have to deal with. You will see some big lines form pretty quickly if a brewery has a highly sought after beer. Most of that is going to lean towards the heavy, darker beers, higher ABV and barrel aged. If that isn't your cup of tea, I wouldn't get jammed up in a line waiting for something you aren't going to enjoy.

I would suggest hitting it up with some buddies. Try some beer styles that you might not be familiar with. The beer world is so vast there are a lot of things people would like that are being brewed that the casual beer drinker is completely unaware of. Try, try and try some more. It's the best way to find some things you like.

Pssssssshhhhh.

Want to check out a beer fest, head on over to Munich in Sept/Oct.

That was a freaking blast.

That is not really a beer festival, more like Mardi Gras. The German purity laws means that there is typically very, very little variation in their beers. They make good beer but you will never see the kind of variation that you will see in the US.

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
