CHARLOTTE – Meredith Starkey, a proven marketing leader with nearly 20 years of experience building brands, has joined the Carolina Panthers as Chief Marketing Officer.

Starkey comes to the Panthers after nearly 10 years at T-Mobile, where she was Vice President of Marketing – Sponsorships and Events. Prior to joining T-Mobile, she held sponsorship marketing positions at Motorola and Genesco Sports Enterprises.

She brings an expertise in building integrated brand communication and sponsorship strategies, customer acquisition and loyalty, creative development, production, research and insight.

"We are delighted to have Meredith join our leadership team," said team president Tom Glick. "She is a proven difference maker in our industry and understands fans and how to deliver special moments, memories and experiences to continue to fuel their passion. As we strive to do more for our fans, partners and communities across the Carolinas, Meredith’s command of the fundamentals and drive to innovate will help us get it right."

Starkey revitalized and expanded entertainment marketing for T-Mobile with a strategy to reach millennials, including their first ever naming rights deal – T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas – along with a series of major media and music platforms.

She also led the renewal strategy and negotiation of T-Mobile’s MLB sponsorship and previously managed T-Mobile’s NBA sponsorship.

In 2018, Event Marketer Magazine named her one of the “Top 15 Women in Event Marketing” and Sports Business Journal named her a “Brand Power Player.” In 2015, she was recognized by Sports Business Journal as a “Forty Under 40” award winner, and the previous year, Sports Business Journal included her in the class of “2014 Game Changers: Women in Sports Business.”

A Williamston, N.C., native who grew up in Lexington, S.C., Starkey earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clemson University.

Starkey will begin her new role in late March

This is good news, the Panthers are rarely talked about outside of the Carolina’s and they can’t keep relying on Pepsi, Bojangles, and Krispy Kreme to be their only big time sponsors (if you can call Krispy Kreme and Bojangles big time).

They should have stolen the CMO from the Hurricanes, that person is a genius and it only seems fair since the Canes poached the Panthers social media guy.

Great idea only the Hurricanes don't have a CMO.
