Jim Skipper: Panthers RB coach retiring. Been with team 15 out of last 17 seasons

I just wonder if this was expected or if he saw it as a slap in the face that Sam Mills III was named as the game manager or whatever the hell that meaningless title was that Rivera bestowed upon him. It really seemed like Ron was trying to say that Mills III and Skipper had both basically been acting in that role all along and this title was just to formalize things but things would essentially continue as is. You know, the typical Rivera way.

Or, you know, they wanted to promote Skipper but Skipper told them he was retiring. And they gave Skipper the room and opportunity to announce his retirement on his own schedule so Rivera said "things would essentially continue as is". Come on over from the dark side.

Not likely.

it would have been a lot better for the Panthers if Skipper had retired weeks ago while the coaching carousel was still spinning. As it stands now, lots of better qualified RB coaches who could have been available to replace him already have other jobs.

And LG is right. When Rivera was talking about the new duties for Mills, he talked about how Skipper and Mills had been helping with this in the past and gave no indication that he expected anything to be different.

Skipper actually has been a head coach in the past. Granted, it was in the USFL, not the NFL. Even so, being a head coach at the professional level means he has experience managing games that Mills doesn't. Heck, Skipper has way more experience than Mills in general. He probably would have been the better choice.

Whether he was irked by Mills getting that title rather than him, no idea. I will say this though: No disrespect to Skipper, but this is kinda sh-tty timing.

My biggest take away is - Lance Taylor. He was the RB coach for CMC at Stanford, seems like if he would have been a great transition to RB. He talked glowingly about CMC and gave priceless draft intel.

It's perplexing what the thought process is when it comes to recent coaching hires. I don't know if anyone knows, but CMC is the only RB on the roster currently. (not counting PS worthy). The position is at a huge need in terms of finding a trustworthy RB to take pressure off CMC. Plus depth, there is none. The new guy has never been an RB coach, while he does seem to be a smart offensive mind. Hes got a load on his plate now- learn a totally new system, help find a #2 plus depth, get caught up all while being a 1st time RB coach.

Nah, but I'd take that over being a cheerleader for a mediocre coach.

I'm a "cheerleader" for the Carolina Panthers team not any one coach or player although I have my favorites. I'm also an optimist by nature. And that entire sentence is your opinion and nothing more.

I was just speculating.

As far as Rivera is concerned, I've seen all I need to see. He can be a very good coach when he thinks he's coaching for his job but when he feels comfortable he is far too prone to doing just that, staying firmly entrenched in his comfort zone. I think that's a huge part of why it's always been a rollercoaster ride under Ron. He waits until the rest pf the league has him completely dialed until he even thinks of making any real changes. In game adjustments? LOL! We don't even make in season adjustments.

So if the Panthers signed Johnny Manziel to replace Cam Newton, would you sit here and applaud the decision because "you're an optimist by nature"?

Maybe in your mind, "cheering for the Carolina Panthers" includes being optimistic that people who have previously been bad at their jobs will suddenly become better.

In mine, it doesn't.

I'm not gonna sit here and act like Ron Rivera hasn't made a bunch of stupid decisions in the past because I'm "cheering for the Carolina Panthers" anymore than I'm gonna act like we didn't blow a bunch of games in the latter half of last season. You wanna be optimistic? Feel free.

I prefer to be a realist.

You're going to extremes now @Mr. Scot Which is letting the conspiracy theorist in you run wild. You should have more control than that. smh

Nah. Frankly, you're not even giving an argument that makes any sense here.

Neither LG nor I have subscribed to any conspiracy theories. We're just questioning the latest decision of a coach with a habit of making dumb decisions.

And again, you're free to be as optimistic as you want to. To me, it's just kinda like the person who goes back to their serially unfaithful spouse saying "I'm sure they won't cheat on me this time".

Ah, @Mr. Scot, that you would care about someone being abused is true kindness. But, no, I left because I had the optimism to know that I and my children would be alright and better off without him. But I digress.

I have no argument. I'm simply pointing out the overabundance of your conspiracy theories which you have insisted on posting all over this forum. And that's all they are,
