Didn't Malcom Jenkins (aka..the Sell Out), also get the league to donate money?

To a fake organization he made with the NFL so they could make the protests go away.  They paid him, personally, for silence.  Have you heard anything from that coalition the NFL formed with his help?

And Kaep/Reid are being paid personally.  For their silence.

Remember when Reid specifically said

Quote

“It’s apparent the N.F.L. is trying to buy an end to the protests,” Reid said.

But apparently its ok for the NFL to buy an end to the protests if Reid/Kaep gets paid.  Just not if Jenkins does?

And there won't be. If the details get leaked the settlement could be voided. A settlement usually just means one side (or both) wanted to get rid of the issue. Could be for money reasons, could be because one side is boned, could be anything.

If most settlements are the norm I would guess either:

  • The NFL realized they were boned and would lose in court so they said here take 75% (or 150% for that matter) of what you were seeking and never bother us again,
  • Kap/Reid realized they would lose and said give us 20% of what we were seeking and we will shut up and leave you alone and not drag this out for 7 years.
  • Something else which covers every scenario so I am right.

Florio recently wrote that Reid's new contract could spell bad news for both he and Kaepernick's cases.

The thing about it being confidential is both sides can now claim victory and nobody will ever know who's right.

It also means likely one or both sides caved sufficiently enough that they wanted to keep the final results out of the media so they could look like they didn't lose.

The NFL didn't buy an end to the protests. The NFL bought an end to the collusion lawsuit. They can't do anything about their right to protest, which I imagine Eric Reid will continue to do.

I am sure its possible that there could be a "kneeling" stipulation in the settlement.  I am not saying there is.  And I honestly don't care.  I just think at this point it feels hypocritical to call Jenkins a sell out.  Reid can keep kneeling, it doesn't bother me either way.

When you pay off two parties and make them agree to an NDA, you're basically admitting defeat. There's no reason for the NFL not to go ahead and dunk on Reid/Kaepernick if they could have.

So you don't think they could settle by having the NFL pay out the settlement amount to Kap's Know Your Rights Camp or any other social justice organization or charity?

Sure. Then the message from Kap and Reid is it’s okay to blackball someone because of social justice protests as long as you pay out a settlement. Not exactly what Reid and Kap has been preaching previously...

Nah, the NFL could have paid $100,000 and said take it or we are happy to follow this through because we think you will get $0 in front of a judge but this save us legal fees which will be $200,000..

That is how these things work.

Do you really think that's how this went down? Come on now. Where in Roger Goodell's tenure has he ever given you the impression that he wouldn't go for blood?

But everything in his tenure has been about making the NFL as much money as possible.  If it makes the NFL money to give a settlement, he'd do it.

Of course there is. Regardless of the outcome, the publicity surrounding the trials itself is absolutely not good for the league, and worth avoiding for a certain cost.

So Kaep and Reid were just after money afterall, and it isn’t really about social justice...?

The collusion case was about Kaep being blackballed.  Therefore he couldn't get work and make money.  So, this particular case was always about money.

He's always been about 'protecting the shield.' His own words. Planting the NFL flag firmly in the moral/ethical high ground would be better for the shield than saving a couple million dollars.

What he said. If Goody can pay $100,000 to save $100,000 he will in a second. But that isn't what I would bet happened.

What happened is that Goody did exactly the very best thing for the owners.  Meaning he called a bunch of owners and asked if they wanted blood or wanted it to go away.

Again the nature of a settlement means nobody will likely every know what really happened so it is all supposition.
