I spoke with a safety at the Senior Bowl who had met with Panthers GM Marty Hurney. He said Hurney told him Eric Reid brought some "edge" to the defense but it hasn't been the same since Josh Norman. That convo made it clear to me Carolina would re-sign Reid

If this is a ballpark figure for the money then I'm good with that, all they need now is to work out who will play the single high safety to allow Reid to play in the box where he is best.

He is paid better than Lamarcus Joyner, Harrison Smith, Earl Thomas, and Malcolm Jenkins. This signing is pretty mediocre, especially since Reid had zero leverage.

No, every one of those guys has a higher average yearly salary on their current or most recent contract.

Only Joyner has/had a smaller total contract because it was a 1 year deal.

Joyner and Thomas will be free agents.
