Jake was the reason I put in the real money stipulation. His initial contract was 2 years/$4M. Let's be real, we signed him as a total should on the dark and he didn't even start the season as the starter.

Fields and Davis, absolutely. Good calls on those. Lucas was meh for the money we spent and IMO Wahle was basically a bust for the money we spent. Same with Justin Hartwig.

Wahle Basically a bust???

Was a all pro 2005 with the panthers??? Smh

Then how do we take Luke’s salary and make it a bonus to free up cap space?

Not arguing.  Asking

Take base salary, say 9M of it, and convert it to signing bonus. This spreads it over remaining years of deal. 3.  Instead of 9M in 2018, it would 3M/yr. in 2018-20. Saving 6M this year.

He’s getting that anyhow without them  And he hasn’t played at a level to deserve anywhere near this amount in how long. And we didn’t even wait to see if the market was down. Instead we set it. Earl Thomas is doing cartwheels right now.

Do you want to actually see the breakdown on how deals are structured or do you want to keep on making up poo??

Because bonus money is spreading out evenly throughout the contract.

Let's say a play has a four year $40M contract with $10M guaranteed. That would mean $30M in salary and $10M in bonus. $2.5M bonus per year.

Now let's say his salary was 5/6/9/10 over the course of the contract. Cap hits of 7.5/8.5/11.5/12.5. Get to year three and you want to lower that $11.5M cap hit. You can't do anything with that $2.5M bonus figure, it's already on the books and paid out. But that $9M slaary? If you convert say $5M of it to bonus, that $5M is spread out over the final two years of the contract. So, the player's money stays the same, but half of it I deferred on the cap until the following year. Now he only has a $9M cap hit this year vs. $11.5M, BUT he now has a $15M cap hit next year vs. $12.5 and instead of only $2.5M in guaranteed, he has $5M guaranteed.

Make sense? It's a shell game tonget more immediate cap space at the expense of greatly decreasedbcap flexibility down the road because it takes non-guaranteed salary money and converts it to guaranteed bonus money.

Yes. Please show me the exact details you speak of. 3/22M with potential incentives to 24M. You got something other than that. I only want to know how much more than 10M we are going to pay to cut him in a year or two.

Cap guys always say look at the "guarantees" for a reason... If he gets the 22mil that means he is playing well if not he can be cut after 2 years .. Which Pretty much breaks down to 5 mil a season.. If he sucks or hurt for 2 years and doesn't hit his bonuses and incentives..please stop bitching..

Very curious to see the details but as long as it's in line with the safety market value set in FA last year I like it. Now we need to find a true FS to play over the top to better let everyone else on the D do what they do.

I'm just hope Hurney didn't Hurney.

And really all we as fans should care about is the "guarantees" and how much he counts against the cap per season...  We are not paying him the money and the only thing that effects us is "how much of the cap this year and next this deal counts against".. What do we have left to spend.. If we find put it only counts less than 5 against the cap.. Some of you need to turn in your expert cards...

And uninformed fans usually say this.

What about his salary this year? Next year? Is he playing for free? Saying 5M a season is complete ignorance.

2005 all pro says he was a success...

Pro bowl, not all-pro. You're aware that pro bowls are a joke and lazy picks. Many players pass on the pro bowl(injuries, don't care) and players get to the pro bowl as replacements. Its even more diluted now since Superbowl players get a pass.

No, it doesn't mean "pretty much $5M per season". It would be his $10M guaranteed, plus his salaries in the first two years, plus any other roster bonuses or incentives built into the deal.

No saying he is getting 7.5mil a year on a 10 mil guarantee  without hitting some incentives is ignorant.. But since you felt the need to go with the name calling thing.. I see you're in your feelings.. Its not that serious dude.. You keep acting like you know what you're talking..  I don't care.. End of the day its really none of our money..

Been waiting for this day... was super nervous we were going to be jackasses and let him sign somewhere else and be in a complete panic until August about a safety.

theres only about 7 top tier safeties and I consider Eric one of them. Theres a huge drop off after that. The way we play we have neglected and been lucky to say with the Safety position.

Eric brings the attitude we need, the speed, the size. We would be looking for a draft prospect in the style of Eric Reid if we didn't have him and every single one of you know that.

Super excited for him to be a panther for a while. I always have dreams about us having 2 badass safeties. Imagine Reid and Earl Thomas or a honey badger.
