Yeah it’s something closer to this than the people saying it’s 7.5 against the cap.

Signing bonus is not held against the cap. Correct?

Signing bonus is amortized over the life of the contract, unless the player is released earlier.  Then the unamortized portion hits the cap that year, with some lines on the calendar it may hit the next year,

What? Everything goes against the cap. These “incentives” go against the cap. You can’t pay a player a dollar without accounting for it on the cap.

$10m guaranteed is sort of nice except that if he sucks we paid him $10m for one year instead of 1 year for $7.3. @Bronn misspoke with the worst case is a 2 year $10m deal. It doesn’t work that way. If he plays 2 years, with just averages it’ll be around a 2 year $14-16m deal. So, it’s a 3 year $22-24m (incentives) deal in the best case where he plays great and we are all happy to see him go all three years or worst case a 1 year $10m deal with the 2 year as an in between.

I just now found out. So we signed a Safety who is limited in coverage, at best, to a contract bigger than Anything offered to a Safety in two years? And those are the terms? Why do they let him anywhere near the checkbook?

   I used to be surprised.

Hurney has been a bit of a fail in FA already and already had two project draft picks under his belt. We’ll have had Kalil for $33m. Poe has a $28m deal and has been awful as well. Throw in another $22m for Searcy, Smith and Cockrell (half done) and I can’t bash Gettleman for Kalil and give Hurney a pass since Kalil actually played 2 sucky years and we’ve basically only gotten 1 sucky starter year out of the other four.

I'm trying to recall any FA signing under Hurney where any real money was spent that actually worked out in our favor.

Mark fields, Stephen Davis, Ken Lucas, Jake Delhome, Wahle, I could keep going..

Jake was the reason I put in the real money stipulation. His initial contract was 2 years/$4M. Let's be real, we signed him as a total should on the dark and he didn't even start the season as the starter.

Fields and Davis, absolutely. Good calls on those. Lucas was meh for the money we spent and IMO Wahle was basically a bust for the money we spent. Same with Justin Hartwig.

Don't know if wahle was a success. If I member right he had injuries and missed games. Cut after two years, during which was either the top or second paid OG.

3 years deal with 10mil guaranteed .. If he hits his incentives and gets to 7.5 mil a year.. That means he's playing well..

What are you bitching about..

He’s getting that anyhow without them  And he hasn’t played at a level to deserve anywhere near this amount in how long. And we didn’t even wait to see if the market was down. Instead we set it. Earl Thomas is doing cartwheels right now.
