says the guy with the ANTIFA flag. your a joke my dude! also I like this deal because the guaranteed money is pretty low. I would hope there are no guarantees for the 3rd year so If for whatever reason he does not preform well we can cut bait without any dead cap going into the 2021 off-season.

Guarantees are pretty much spread over the life of the contract. But, with only $10 mil in guarantees, we'll have paid him all that by the end of the second season.

Also, reported for personal attack, and for pulling politics into the main forum. This thread is about a great signing in Eric Reid, a current and future Panther player.

Reid is arguably the best safety we have had on our team during the Rivera era.  That might not be saying too much, but it is true...

Quality signing at a reasonable rate for both sides.  And it removes safety from an area of desperate need to just an area of need.

The foundation of Bradberry, Reid, TBD, & Jackson is still the best situation we have had in the secondary going into a season since 2015.  Rejoice in that at least

Call me crazy, but I think you pay the guy what he's worth even if nobody wants him due to the kneeling controversy.  I would feel really lousy about the Panthers using that as "leverage" to pay him less than he's worth as a starting NFL safety.  I think he'll only be better next year with Rivera calling the Defense and having an entire off-season training program with the team.

This. So much this. You're not renting a god damn house. Free agency isn't shopping at Dollar General. If you don't pay the guy in the neighborhood of what you and he both want and try to low ball him then that FA has no real value to you. You want other FA's to highly consider the Panthers? Then you respect them and pay what FA's are worth based on their value to the team. Besides, he said he wants to play here, he feels good about the Panthers. The Huddle has always seen that as a very good thing. It should be in Reid's favor this time too.

I can't believe it took 12 pages before anybody said anything about a FA's worth. Thanks, @NAS

people whining about 10 million guaranteed over a 3 year contract for eric reid have an agenda btw

Wow that's a strong generalization. Sure some people don't like him for his stance, but this was the same guy who was on his couch to start last season. Thinking that we could have signed him for less doesn't mean somebody has an agenda.

Honestly, based on last year's safety free agency, we overpaid. Considerably.

This.    I joined the cheerleading when we signed Reid last year.   Reid turned out to be jag....certainly nothing special.  I'd be fine if we gave him jag money.  There some on this board who would cheer this even if he doesn't get another tackle, mostly for political reasons.

Rivera said he was playing at a Pro Bowl level and despite his questionable decision with personnel i think overall he knows defense pretty well

You're clearly another one injecting politics into this.

To be fair, there's plenty of others who would jeer the signing even if it was for veteran minimum with no guarantees for the same reason.

The comical thing about it is that both factions constantly accuse the other of doing nothing but pushing their agenda... while doing nothing but pushing their agenda.

Just wait for the classic Hurney "restructure"...

I'm still trying to figure out why he touched Matt Kalil's contract last year. I still haven't figured out how that did anything for us other than out us on tbe hook for more guaranteed money which is just going to cause us to take a bigger hit when we make him a post June 1st cut.

the only thing he did was convert the option bonus (that was getting paid no matter what) into a signing bonus. If Kalil were to retire the Panthers could get some money back. That's it.
