Don’t count on ever seeing Old Cam again

Was listening  to a radio show, have to admit I don’t know who it was. They were talking about Cams injury and said they had spoke to a doctor who said that part of Cams problem is his cartilage is starting to break down and once that starts it never stops.

Guy said it’s going to be impossible for Cam to return to his former playing level where he could sling it, said Norv’s short passing game will help Cam in the long run.

Take it FWIW

plenty of quarterbacks have won rings without the ability to thread the ball forty yards up the seam on a frozen rope. cam was in the MVP discussions the first half of last season despite playing what felt to us like a water-down offensive system and it doesn't seem far-fetched to believe he'll end up right back there next year.

I mean anyone who ever suggests his best days may be behind him on this site gets flamed but the reality is MVP Cam is a thing of the past sadly.

Assuming his shoulder returns to 100% (which seems more and more unlikely) you still have to look at what made him a near unstoppable force.

29 isn’t old at all for a QB but it is for a RB. Cam has taken a beating setting rushing TD records as a QB and he showed last season he was hesitant to take off running at times. Combine that with the fact he has a lethal rocket for an arm which looks like it may no longer be the case and his biggest strengths may be somewhat nullified

I don't need to be a doctor to know that no two injuries are the same and that unless you've actually examined a patient and looked at the test results, diagnostic images, etc. you probably don't have near enough information to intelligently comment on the situation.

Too many "doctors" these days are just using their degrees as a stepping stool into talking head positions and just like the rest of the media, they'll say whatever needs to be said to get those clicks.

Guess what, all of our bodies are basically breaking down once we reach adulthood. That's just the truth. Most people peak athletically in their late teens. High level athletes who actually train peak athletically in their early 20s. From a purely physical standpoint, it's all downhill from there on out.

In some ways the bum shoulder helped Cam in that he couldn't throw a two yard pass 878 miles per second.  We don't need the old Cam back.  We need early season last year Cam, with the added threat of the occasional deep ball.  Not a deep ball every other play.

So we don’t want a 15-1 regular season MVP Cam again? Interesting lol

This.

Cam was on his way to the transformation we've been waiting on since 2011. And then the wheels fell off along with his right arm. He doesn't need to have the best arm in the NFL anymore, as long as he's seeing the field and not hesitating on dumping the ball off to CMC. If he can keep the defense honest with the ability to sling a 40-50 yarder, he'll be fine. Don't need him throwing 30-40 yard lasers into tight coverage all game like before.

I mean his 2015 season was a top 10 statistical season for a QB of all time and would be even higher if Ginn hadn’t dropped like 5 wide open TDs that year...

Why people insist we’ve been waiting for Cam to be a dumpoff game manager with a deep ball confuses the hell out of me. He had 45 total TDs to 10 INTs that year and went 15-1...

I’ll take that over whatever QB you are referring to any day.

I think we do. Just like 2015 he'll have the smaller, quicker WRs that can get separation. Only this time those guys can actually catch the ball consistently and take it to the house at any moment.

I agree there. Drops were a huge issue. I dunno. I miss old Cam and I know the reality is he’s on a decline. I don’t want him to be a game manager :(
