The evolution is in process

What's done is done. Either he changes or he doesn't. Hurney is the same thing, but then again you can't fix stupid. You're stuck with it. Deal with it. I just hope if we know it ain't going to happen, we don't force our way to 8-8 with a backup QB and a 25th ranked defense when we could focus on the future. We won't know literally anything until week 1. And then still won't know poo until halloween.

We'll see what happens.  I really hope that Ron has learned the importance of being uncomfortable.  Why do the Patriots seem to always be in the Super Bowl hunt?  Because they always do things differently, beat your expectations, and take away what you do well.  If our defense goes back to top 10 and Cam is able to play the way he could before his shoulder got wrecked...  Well, maybe Ron learned something.

He still has to learn his killer instinct.  He's got to finish teams.  If he STILL can't put teams away, then his run is over.

I've been extremely critical of Ron recently, but if he's willing to admit he needs to change then that's all you can ask for. The fact is the defense did play better with him calling the plays. He's brought in help for coverages.  Norv will be in his 2nd year with hopefully a healthy Cam at QB, and valuable experience from his toolbox of young weapons. Fix the oline and pass rush, and I'm optimistic a short turnaround is possible.

The guy knows defensive football. Most people don't like being forced out of their comfort zone. It's not that he's dumb, it's just that he's nothing special as an NFL head coach. It honestly takes a special head coach to be able to flow and adapt with the evolutions of the game as they happen.

Its been crystal clear for 8 years now that Ron Rivera ain’t such a coach.

He also said he lost sight of a bit of advice once given to him over 20 years ago by former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson.

“Stick to what you know, and do it,” he recounted. “Somewhere along the line last year, I kind of got away from what I believed. You do the same thing for eight years, and you get in that comfort zone, ‘This is what we do and this is how we do it.”

Rivera said he and Stephanie had a blunt conversation about how to correct that.

“I have to evolve, I have to change,” Rivera said. “This team has to evolve, this team has to change. ... I’ve got to step up. I’ve got to set the standard.”

what does this even mean lmao

"Jimmy told me to stick to what I know. I lost sight of that when I did the same thing for 8 years"

FFS it took EIGHT FUGGING YEARS for this asswipe to figure this out?

And even then, after all the pretend “evolution” of the past, what kind of naive kiss-ass would it take to believe him?

I have to evolve and I have to change is diametrically opposed to stick to what you know. Ron is who he is and h just told Tepper what he needed to in order to get another year. He may be a little more aggressive next year but if we do well and he gets an extension he'll go right back to the same old Ron. Basically, we're back to "please save us, Cam" mode. Sure hope that shoulder holds up...

I am going to try and be positive, being that he will be our coach next year no matter what my opinion is. With that being said, the idea of a 3-4/4-3 hybrid D seems interesting. I do like it when we show some innovation, similar to when we brought back the wildcat with Deangello, and the college run pass options when Cam entered the league.

Truer words have never been spoken. An extension for Ron would be the death nail for us. He'll go back to the same Ron and we'll have to suffer through another losing season.
