Those 2 banks are regional and struggled to compete with the big dawgs.  This merger actually creates more competition.  It will also chop thousands of jobs and bring thousands of jobs to Charlotte.

BBT was forced to take tarp money. They took the minimal and put it in an account at a bigger bank, repaid as soon as they could, and kept the interest

yep.  They are becoming the quiet giant of regional banking. Just sticking to sound principles. Lesser of the other evils in the banking world

I've had multiple accounts with BBT for years, and have owned their stock for a loooooong time.  Conservative bank that seems to keep on making the right decisions.
