Switching to Spectrum

Recommended Posts

I used to be a full-time TWC/Spectrum, used them for TV & Internet; used to be billed around $170/month. Ridiculous!

Now I used Spectrum for Internet @ $69.99/mo, Sling TV @ $30/mo & TV Antennas for free local channels (NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS). Saves me $70/mo.

Whether you want to switch from cable to streaming TV all depends on you. How many channels do you actually use & want? How fast is your internet? Can you bear with the internet lagging every now & then?

I had uverse for about 12 years and absolutely loved it. Lost my job so had to drop it. I now have Spectrum 100 mbs unlimited, was grandfathered from a TWC deal which they have now told me is no longer available (my ass), made me a Spectrum customer and raised my cost by $20 to $65.99. But I have had no service problems in the 2 years I've been with them. I have my own cable modem/router. So whichever ISP you use, buy your own modem/router. You're not paying to lease their equipment (if they have a fee, Spectrum is no fee for modem but $5/mo for wifi wtf) and you'll have decent equipment with regular updates (ISP's is at least 2 years old and you'd be lucky indeed to get any updates until there's a problem). They'll complain but ignore them. Once caught Spectrum throttling, called them. They complained that they couldn't reach my modem and that was the problem. Told them to just fix their throttling, it wasn't the modem, and Voila! within 10 minutes of ending the call the throttling stopped.

I share my son's DirecTV Now & Vudu logins and my daughter's Netflix login and buy Amazon Prime. Plus an OTA antenna. I haven't had any problems with DTVN since their major update last summer. I have a Roku 3 stick and a Chromecast. I cast a lot of sports from reddit and tend to use a channel's app verified with the DTVN login or the OTA channels.

What streaming service you use depends a lot on what your family watches. This may help, Best Service for You.  https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-news/best-streaming-service-cable-cutting-784156/?fbclid=IwAR2aR4bTUB87ZTtaFDeTMODfpuNiivzGDVJbr5KboLV62gO8xRP35lyy06Y

Also check what streaming service your mobile carrier may offer. Most offer something these days.

If you're on Facebook, I'm a moderator for a group called CordCutters, helping with cutting the cord and internet/wifi problems and posting cord cutter news. Let me know if you want on invite.

I have no issues with Spectrum.  Did the cord cutting thing for about a year. Kept my phone and internet ($90) and used PSVue and Sling to stream (had to have both, because the wife needed Lifetime, TLC, and Animal Planet).

Now we're back with cable, and it's cheaper than having multiple streaming services, plus we get a lot more channels. Our bill for phone/internet/tv is around $155. Bottom line, it's just more convenient.  And the customer service is better than it used to be.

I was going to suggest Philo at $16/month for Lifetime, TLC, and Animal Planet. https://help.philo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006214074-Channel-Packages

I have Spectrum for internet and have no real complaints.

On the TV end, I use DirecTV Now.  If you are an ATT mobile customer, you get a discount and a free premium channel of your choosing (if they are still offering that).

I prefer YouTubeTVs UI compared to DTVN, but programming and the discounts are what sold me on DTVN.

Question... I did the trial to check it out and getting video skips, misplaced audio and screen freeze.  You seen any of that?

Just got Spectrum and wow!  I’m so impressed with the customer service and the actual service.  So much better than uverse.

Hey man, I noticed a bundle TV + Internet for 89 bucks.  It appears to be a streaming service.  You have that?  Also, you have the "silver" package?  Quality?

no one really pays for TV anymore, just get spectrum internet and stream everything else.

I have Netflix, hulu, and youtube TV all for a better price and am always satisfied with my options

that said, I think spectrum's internet is the best option out there, satisfied with that as well

My Xfinity (Comcast) bill was about to go up to $230 this month, an increase of $40.  Had the option of getting a lower end package without the premium channels for $150 with DVR and internet.  Decided to drop everything other than internet for $80 and purchase an external OTA HD antenna and a Tablo DVR for time shifting.  https://www.tablotv.com/

I already have subscriptions to Netflix and Prime w/included NFL Thursday Night Football.  Between those two subscriptions and the OTA stations, major networks/independent stations (about 20) and shopping/duplicates/foreign language networks (40) there is plenty to watch.

The Tablo DVR streams to just about every sort of device (ROKU, Fire TV, Chromcast, Apple TV, Android TV ) a subscription is optional ($5/month or $50/year) but that subscription provides the ability to stream recorded content away from home.

I changed again, now going with YouTube tv and Sling Blue till the draft is over.  Will be dropping Sling and picking up HBO for GOTs in April.

Was happy with Hulu till they fugged with the pricing.  Hoping YTTV keeps the price at 40 but not counting on it.

Philo provides 44 of the more popular cable channels for only $16.00 and you can stream to 3 separate devices simultaneously.   Not bad at all, but Philo is able to keep the price low by eliminating sports channels which means Panthers fans will need to get their fix with an additional subscription or OTA with an antenna.  Free 7 day trial period.  Stations include Motortrend, DIY, AXS, AMC (Walking Dead) among others.
