Would much rather make this kind of signing and save a few million like you said, than go after Clowney like everyone will want.  Clowney at the number he'll command, and him always being banged up...would scare the living poo out of me when signing the 5-6 year deal he'll want.

The 3-4 aspect changes some things, but also don't know how I'd like putting so much cap in the LB group.  Luke at 17, Shaq at 9, Barr at 13 or so?  That's A LOT of money in LBs.

But remember

You have to be thinking Barr as more than a LB

He is more of a joker at LB/Edge rusher.

Our big FA is Daryl Williams.  The guy has never played LT.  He is a RT, only has had 1 Good season, and coming off a Knee injury.  If anyone thinks he is going to get LT money, well.....i have ocean front property I can sell you in Nebraska

The top RT in the NFL make between 8-9 million.  So if you think we are going to pay him 10+ your fooling yourself.

Williams can be sign for around 9 mil a year

Let me spin this another way where we can have a solid RT and get a top rusher.

Let Williams walk and draft a LT.  Not a good year for OTs, but there are some.  If you take an OT in the first, you have $5m left to invest in an edge guy and you have Moton at RT.

Or, if you think Moton is the next LT, even better--wait until the third and draft a RT.

There are so many ways we can go---but I would say re-signing Williams is not a given.   And if the market for RTs is $8m-9m, Williams coming off surgery may not get that--big men with bad wheels can have recurring problems--gonna be interesting to see what Hurney does....traditionally, he gives the credit card to our own free agents.

Barr just made over $12M in 2018. He might not set the market, but once a couple of pass rushers do set the market, he will cost closer to $14-15M per.

That being said, at 27 years old, and us shifting up to more hybrid 34 looks... there aren't too many better than him on the market. Luke and Shaq inside, with Barr and Addison or Barr and Carter would look freak nasty. Add a D-lineman in the first two rounds and our defense is rough, speedy and tough.

I also think someone like Dante Fowler would be cheaper and work well for us. We have to make a big splash whether it's at DE SAF or OLB... this defense is old and lacks an identity.

It's amazing how nonchalant so many Panthers fans have been acting about Williams consider our monumental struggled at OT for better part of the last decade. Quality OTs don't exactly grow on trees.

I wouldn't let Williams walk either.  This is a golden opportunity to get a long term contract on a good player at a reasonable salary.  A solid injury clause to be included.

Dude is not signing for less than 15 mil.. To many other teams with way more money than us... Including a few teams from the west coast where he is from..He is going for the money..

His franchise tag would be worth 15 mil

He's not going to make more than that per year.

His 5th year option was around 12.  So itll be just over that most likely
