FA: Anthony Barr and Rivera's Hybrid 3-4

Digging into FA.  Everyone is drooling over Clowney etc.

One guy who has caught my eye and I really want now is Anthony Barr.

Rivera says we are going to be running a hybrid 3-4, not a full traditional 3-4.

The 6'5 255 pound Barr played 3-4 OLB Edge rusher in college and was a sud recording 23.5 sacks and 41.5 TFL his last 2 seasons

The Vikings drafted him and he converted to 4-3 OLB where he has still been a stud.  Several scouts still believe he is a better 3-4OLB.

Reading what some local Minnesota Vikings writers are writing about him.  They seem to be saying he is going to require 12-12.5 mil vs the 18+ youd see required for a Clowney etc.  Stating that GMs still view him as a 4-3 OLB $$Wise.

Barr would fit that "Joker" role in this hybrid to a T.  Being able to lineup as a Edge rusher, yet still be able to sit back, drop back like a 4-3OLB causing all sorts of confusion for the Offense

This guy is going to cost a fortune.

I dont think he is

From what Minnesota writers are saying they seem to be saying that he is expecting to be 12-12.5 range

There are a good handful of "edge rushers" who are going to hit the market where they predict teams to go hard after

I was thinking about this guy too. I've heard good things but that recent injuries have affected him? or maybe the Vikings' D has shifted and he's not the centerpiece.

Seems like a high character leader guy which would be great for replacing TD. If they think he can rush the passer and give the team a new dimension, then go for it.

Well if he is going to come that cheap why would Minnesota let him leave?

Bad fit.

They are also really cap struck with the Cousins deal.   Also have other big needs.  Edge rusher ismt a Huge need for them right now either

He was my #1 FA if the rumors are true about us switching to a 3-4. We need OLB who can rush and cover the flats. Barr is athletic enough to do both.

*Problem is can we afford him?

Cutting Torrey Smith, Captain Munnerlyn, and Matt Kalil june 1 puts us at 31.6 Million in cap space

Searcy very well may be cut, but what we save cutting him will cancel out signing another Safety like Boston.

We also can restructure KKs deal if we need to.  Fanspeak seems to have restructuring KK opens up an additional 5 mil which will put us at 36 mil

Mario Addison is in the last year of his deal.  We can easily extend him 2 additional years and open a few more million

We could be looking at close to 40 million in cap space.  Which while isnt eye popping like the colts or jets.  It is still Plenty to work with.

Considering the Saints generally have a third of that ammount yearly and still work it out.

Our big FA is Daryl Williams.  The guy has never played LT.  He is a RT, only has had 1 Good season, and coming off a Knee injury.  If anyone thinks he is going to get LT money, well.....i have ocean front property I can sell you in Nebraska

The top RT in the NFL make between 8-9 million.  So if you think we are going to pay him 10+ your fooling yourself.

Williams can be sign for around 9 mil a year

That will leave close to 3 mil left to play

Barr made 13 mil in his 5th year option.  And if the Vikings slapped the franchise tag on him, it will be worth 15 mil.

Barr can EASILY be had for roughly 13.5 mil per season.

Even if we signed him for 14 per season and DWill at 9 per season

We will have a solid 16 mil to put other pieces together

This can easily been done.

Would much rather make this kind of signing and save a few million like you said, than go after Clowney like everyone will want.  Clowney at the number he'll command, and him always being banged up...would scare the living poo out of me when signing the 5-6 year deal he'll want.

The 3-4 aspect changes some things, but also don't know how I'd like putting so much cap in the LB group.  Luke at 17, Shaq at 9, Barr at 13 or so?  That's A LOT of money in LBs.
