Greg Cosell on his thoughts of the Panthers maybe switching to the 3-4

you can run 3-4 scheme from a 4-3 look and vise versa. It's not that it has to be 3 or 4 hands in the dirt. it's about gaps and assignments among the front 7. It's about disguising your looks so the other team doesn't know what coming. There's so many different variations of everything in football now, so don't neccesarily think back to old school football and what an old school traditional 3-4 or 4-3 looked like.

Think of it as more of getting our best players in the best position to be successful. You may see a blend of the two different looks. Some of it similar to concepts the Panthers have already ran before in the last few years.

The word I heard was Hybrid.  I have always like Rivera's mentality when it comes to defense.  If there are ways to draft a couple players and take what we have and employ a new style of defense.  Rivera is one I would want to do it.   Hopefully, he will remain as play caller for the defense.

It will be interesting.  These players will have to be disciplined and know their assignments whether lining up in a 3-4 or 4-3.

Moving to 3-4 would take advantage of this teams strengths and cover some of the weaknesses. If you watch how NE zero blitzed their way to the Super Bowl this has to be exactly what Rivera wants to do and has the talent to do it. Not only does KK at DE help with pressure because he can be more flexible in a 3-4 it also allows Love and Butler to be in a position to do really well. It's not a cure all but it will make us more flexible.
