Is Gary still out of reach?

I'm with you on Oliver.  He is a DT all the way, but I don't like his size for a DT.  275 or so is very light for a DT in a 4-3 alignment, and he is more of a run stopper than pass rusher at this point.  Like Gary, he didn't have many pressures relative to other penetrating DL, which concerns me about his ability to be disruptive against the pass.

I just worry that once he gets to the NFL, he'll be engulfed by bigger, stronger, and technically superior O-linemen.  I'm not saying he'll be a bust or that he can't become a great DT, just that there are some concerns and legitimate bust potential.

That about covers my fears with him. He’s capable of anything if he finds a comfortable weight and proper scheme fit.  But I’m not taking him unless those other 5 are gone. And even then I would try and trade down.

Clemson fans? Why is Christian Wilkins not getting the respect(it seems) in mock drafts and big boards. Did I miss something? I think he’s right there behind the top 3. Tremendous athlete. Versatile. Great pass rusher from anywhere. Any thoughts because I see at worst, a top 10 player.

Oliver might be a little light for the position but so is Aaron Donald and he has excelled as an NFL three technique. My concern is that Oliver didn't face near the college competition that Donald did. Donald played in the Big 10 which is probably the strongest producer of NFL OL year in and year out. The American conference Oliver plays in is nowhere close. If Oliver comes in at the 6'3" 290 he's listed at, I don't think any NFL teams are going to be worried about his size.

I wouldn't be upset in the least about draft Wilkins. He was the heart of that Clemson D IMO.

Here is a good primer on the 4-3 versus the 3-4 and one gap versus 2 gap schemes. Put in context some of the discussion about who we pick based on what scheme we employ.

Here is one on a hybrid 3-4

His weight and drills at the combine will matter. But Donald had a ridiculous combine along with consistent production.

Of course, as I say any of this I can easily see him dominating from day one.

U can see him dominating but are low on Gary...

How am I low on Gary. As I said, I wouldn’t be disappointed at all with him. Just like certain players more. I’d still have him top 10 on my board. Leave me out of your issues with him.

And for the record, I can see any of the top 10 DL/DE being multiple All Pro.s and considered dominating.

But you have a problem with anyone who does not agree with your opinion. Therefore.....issues.

Which is really why you started this thread.

Every year we get posters who fall in love with a certain prospect and defend him like he's their own son. Anyone who isn't ready to vote the guy into the HOF before he's ever even drafted is a hater.

Just saw a crazy mock that had 8 edge players going before us. Crazy shizz. Its just a crapshoot til free agency and the combine. (Oh and funny enough, Gary wasnt one of them. He went like 22.)

I'd be shocked if that happens. I don't see eight edge rushers going by #15 and I don't see eight edge rushers going over Gary. Someone will roll the dice on his potential.

Absolutely agree! Just got me thinking that I need to stop worrying if player X or Y will be there. Going to just have fun with it for now until after the combine. Then I'll crank my gloom and doom scenarios back up again. Quick question. We took Jonah W. OT in that mock. Would you take him or Gary? That would be a tough pick for me to call in that situation. BPA may be Jonah but 8 DEs are off the board. Just to clarify, you may not be a Jonah guy but you would get your choice of OTs or Gary. The catch 22 is whatever DEs are left may almost make it til your 2nd round since 9 will have been off the board.(Gary the 9th). Problem is if you take Gary OTs are probably gonna get cleaned up by your second pick. (Disclaimer. We don't resign Williams in this scenario).

What would you do????

What would you dooooo?
