Pet Peeve: Shopping Cart Abandonment

We should do like they do in Germany. If you want a cart, you put a Euro in and take one. If you want your Euro back, you have to return it. It probably won't solve the problem entirely, but I would be willing to bet there would be a lot less carts rolling around.

My first job was at a grocery store.  One day this guy walked his cart up to his car, loaded his poo in, and then just pushed it off full force into the parking lot.  Then he stood there and watched as a bunch of 16 year olds in Lowes Foods aprons sprinted after it before fate willed it into somebody's car.  He had a deadpan expression on his face that rivals Ron Rivera.  He gave not one atom of a fug that everybody saw him do it.

There was also this one old guy who was a huge dick about everything having to be double-bagged and the handles tied.  One day I watched him go all the way back to his car and that motherfuger took out every last bag and untied the handles on every single one before he put them in his trunk.

A Walmart near where I live used to hand out tickets for a drawing whenever you brought a cart back in. The parking lot rarely had a cart in it and the weekly prize was a $100 gift card. It only lasted about 2 months before corporate put the halt to that. It seemed like a great idea to me and obviously accomplished the goal.

I do the lawn maintenance at several goodwills and they are the worst , carts left anywhere and everywhere.  Usually because they have to be returned to inside the store

And don’t even  get me started on the cigarette butts. Smdh

Cigarette butts make me nauseous if I see some pos throwing their nasty butts on the ground I tell them my state is not your fuging ashtray.

The part that gets me the most is when folks try to justify their laziness by saying they are "making sure these guys have a job." Umm, no. Your 400+ pound fat ass shopping here buying way too much food ensures they have a job. Nothing about you being a good for nothing lazy dumb schmuck that leaves the three shopping carts lying around dictates their employment status. In fact, it just makes their job that much harder, so do us all a favor and pick up your poo after you're done using it.

this, and accept credit cards. like a cart Netflix. maybe if no one EVER returns the cart and it's never to be seen again you should be charged a million dollar fine and 7 years federal time. that's insane obviously but a good lawyer can get you 3 year probation and half the fine which is reasonable.

it'd be amazing how quickly this epidemic would cease to exist

Credit card swipe for $3 would solve the issue immediately.  Swipe to get one out, swipe and credit applied when you place it back on the holster.  All of a sudden everyone would have a lot more time to take the cart back.

Also, groceries cost 10% more if you don't bring your bag.

my wife got used to the idea a long time ago that if I see several carts sitting out in the parking lot, i'm going to line them up and take them to the corral (I worked at a toysrus for a little while about 25 years ago and had to collect them so I remember the pain). typically If I know I am going to need a cart, I take one from outside and just leave it inside if I can and see if I can hand it off to someone else going in if I can't.

one of the big benefits of taking one from outside is if it's been sitting out in the air and sun it will have been disinfected naturally for the most part if they've been out for  while so I don't have to rely on those wipes so much.
