Yeah, I can see him retiring at the end of this contract and going full tilt into the clothing business and multiple other ventures.  He could easily make much more than he makes right now without getting beat up 16 to 19 weeks a year. May really depend on his shoulder- if he can't recover full strength, makes the decision easier for him.

Other than clothing, what kind of "ventures" do you have in mind?

Getting into lotsa "ventures" bankrupts an incredibly high percentage of NFL and NBA players after they retire.

By the time he's retired Cam should have banked $50,000,000+....

....Cam, invest it conservatively (and maybe some with Tepper!) and live off the income, leave the "ventures" to others.

A couple of snippets from an S.I. article about 10 years ago, linked below if you want to read it:

• By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce.

• Within five years of retirement, an estimated 60% of former NBA players are broke.

They don't show the numbers for that study or define what financial stress is , so hard to say if that's accurate or clickbait.  It implies that a lot of high salaried players go bankrupt, but most NFL players don't make THAT much money or play that long.  If that 78% counts everyone whose on a roster for any length of time, you could have a practice squad guy who made it to one game, who made about 50K for a year and then never played again count as part of that 78%.

Or you could have a back of the roster guy like Dorian Johnson, lets say he gets cut next year, doesn't make another team, so he made half a mil for a year, takes two years traveling the world, cause, hey why not, so two years later, he could be unemployed "financially stressed" ,have  50 K in the bank and count as part of that 78%.

Do I think that way too many athletes get taken advantage of by friends, family & financial advisors ? Sure, just not trusting numbers of a study where I can't see the details.

As far as what Cam would do, a fashion empire and a chain of cigar lounges come to mind. He could easily make the same money [ or much more] running a couple of businesses without taking the physical and mental pounding that is an NFL season.

"Click-bait"...too funny...like S.I. is in the business of making things up for "click-bait".

Think what you like....but the stories of NFL and NBA players blowing through incredibly large amounts of money are pretty much endless.

As for your last paragraph, that's some more funny stuff.  Cam just snaps his fingers and has a big ol' fashion empire huh? LOL.  Cam doesn't have the qualifications or experience to execute either of the "ventures" you suggest.  Since that's the cae, who is going to run this "empire" for him?

Let me ask you a serious question, how much money do you think Cam would have to invest in order to build out this "fashion empire"?  $5 million?  $15 million?  $50 million?  More?

Second serious question, do you believe it's possible Cam could actually l-o-s-e money if he went into the "fashion" business?  Or do you think because he's Cam he can ONLY make money?

You have no idea what that 78% represents, or the validity of the study. You can't, you have no idea if it's scientifically valid because you don't know the details.

And, it's not so much SI making it up so much as tweaking the numbers to make the stats show what they want.  If you don't realize that happens every day in the media, you need to go to a college campus and talk to a statistics professor.

And, yes, those stories about players losing millions are out there, There's also lots of very wealthy former players. Stories about a guy saving his money, investing wisely and making generational money aren't nearly as popular as stories of people losing big.

Of Course Cam can lose money, never said he could't.

Cam, by the end of his current contract, will have grossed about 140 mil from the panthers, probably an equal amount in endorsements. He can invest as much money as he needs or wants to.

Cam ALREADY has a successful clothing line. He's been building it since his rookie year. The outfits he wears at pressers are free advertising for his clothing line.  He's been positioning himself  to be a big player in the fashion world for years. No reason to think he'll fail. OF course he can, but he seems to be doing everything right to set himself up for success after football.

Actually I do know, SI is spot on here.

You know I have never heard of the Cam Newton Brand, nor have I ever seen it in a store.

Could you point me to where it is sold?

I'd like to see where one might buy an "outfit" like Cam "wears to his pressers" and how much it would cost to replicate said outfit.   Specifically, where can one buy the "outfit" in the linked pic....the one with the fox tail....I bet that bad boy is a big seller for the Cam Newton Brand.

That said, even if he does have a clothing line there is no possible way you could know if it is successful or not because you haven't seen the financial statements.

PS...no way Cam's endorsements remotely approach his on field income, fake news.
