This could be a great signing. He is a strong guy who is a great blocker who played basketball until 2015.  So he has to be athletic with good hands to play basketball. And most basketball players who struggle converting to football aren't physical enough. As a blocker he has that covered. So he is really new at football and running routes and polishing his game. There is plenty of reason to believe he has lots of upside and great for depth.

No we should get rid of fans who think Olsen has subpar blocking skills.

Pre injuries he didn't miss a game from 2007 to 2016 and was in on 90% of snaps including all those years we led the league in rushing lining up as 'old fashioned' TEs line up. He's never been a just put him out wide TE and has always blocked his ass off. Not the best blocking TE but calling him subpar in that arena is par for the course for some of these fans rofl.

Trying hard + being in on all the run plays does not = good run-blocker...

Our run game has been so good because of Cam Newton + our scheme..even with Shula, we’ve had an elaborate run game with lots of misdirection. Olsen has not been a great blocker, especially in his earlier years...if you really wanna argue that he’s a good run blocking TE then I don’t know what to tell you.

Do you think Jimmy Graham is also a good run-blocking TE? If no, then should he be unemployed/never employed in the first place?

@Fox007 never said anything about "trying hard" and also he was in on every run play - which means we valued and trusted him to block when needed to. I also remember our team rushing for over 100 yards multiple times Derek Anderson was QB under Shula, is that a product of Cam? 

Jimmy Graham actually lined up more at WR than he did as an in line TE for all three teams he played for. Greg actually played in and on the line. Bad comparison. 

 

It's unreal how we sit here and say players are not good.... I am going to align with fox007 on how unreal our fans are with their asinine comments.
