Very much a Ron Rivera type player.

Yup so in other words...not a player on 30 out of 32 teams in the league rofl....

You know what's a cool story bro? having a TE that can catch AND block...holy poo that thurs a thought.

CBs that cover in man and zone

Receivers that can run routes and catch

Safeties with talent and are Young

A coach that can evaluate talent and manage a game.

Being efficient on offense and defense

I mean you can keep going with this team.

This all depends on how much the contract is.

Not saying this is the case with Manhertz, but I hate it when teams overpay for guys that could replace for 600-700k.  I think sometimes teams do that because a guy is already in their system.

You do a handful of 1.5-2m deals that you could have paid 600k for that is difference between maybe singing a upper tier FA vs a mid tier FA.

This makes me think about the George Kittle talk a few of us had in a different thread.  2017 draft seem heavy on TEs at the time.  We traded up for Hall.  Could have easily used that pick for Kittle, who was one of the best TEs this year in the league.  Even if you don't take Kittle, how about Roberts, Butts, or Leggett.  Could any of them maybe gave the same production as Manhertz?   If so they would have been on a really cheap 4 year deal.

Either way it all depends on how much they paid him and he did seem to do some really good things last year in the blocking game, so hopefully it works out for everyone.  Maybe he has an expanded role in the passing game this year.

Someone lost the memo that modern players have more than one role to keep defenses off balance,..

Ron is from 1965 or something.

Are there many tight ends in the league that can do both? Manhertz is good depth and a solid ST contributor. Also, if we are using Manhertz (or any other 3rd string TE) to keep a defense off balance then I hate to say it, but it will be a lost season.

I don’t think Manhertz is a bad player, and I have absolutely no problem him signing a new contract or even being on the roster week one, but I think at some point soon the Panthers have to pick between him and Armagh for the specialist blocking role.
