That’s funny. Weve actually decided to back out. Owner pushing us to make a decision today, refuses to extend the option period any longer. With our wedding this weekend we just want this off our plate at this point.

Good job. You were gonna get absolutely railroaded. With those promised repairs neither completed nor in the contract, that seller was going to develop some sudden severe amnesia regarding those conversations as soon as your pen hit the paper.

It’s def a load off. We’ve already got our eyes on another house a few streets over. It’s a little more money but about 10 years newer and appears better kept. Comes on the market March 1 which is perfect. Owner currently moving out and is owner listed for sale.

Whew! You've made the right decision! Give the marriage a chance to mature and get into that whole married life thing. Then go look for a house again.

Look, I'm not sure why the rush to buy now, but creating an imagined deadline only adds pressure you don't need when buying a house. Home buying is best done with a clear and open mind, free from deadlines and expectations. Looking for a house when you don't have to move is actually kind of fun.

Congrats on the wedding, and for getting out from under that mess you were looking at.

 

To be honest, spending an extra 20-40k on a much newer home with less issues really won't break the bank.  It's 1 or 2 less meal out per month to cover that difference.  And you likely won't be breaking the budget with as many repairs.

 

Enjoy that new marriage for a while, then get back on the search.
