Hurney Sounds Like He's Ready For a Change

hurney needs to be looking for a career change.

thanks for giving jake an extension and giving away our top 5 pick next year.

took some gambles that didn't quite work out. i admire the effort but the results need consequences.

no matter what he has done prior to this year, the decisions that he made coming into this one have set the franchise back a good bit and will be all that he is really remembered for.

i don't care just as long as we get someone with some experience to do the job next time.

I think they let Jake start on Sunday.

I bet it goes something like this;

hurney- "Jake, you got 1 more shot. You throw any interceptions and your out of the game. I stuck my neck out for you but your play is inexcusable. I will give you your shot at revenge, but if you screw up the least little bit your out"

Jake- "ok"

No doubt Hurney has f'ed up big time, especially with Jake's contract. I still don't know the logic behind that, besides being a mutli-million pat on Jake's back. But, he could definitely earn some support by backing a change at QB.

Peppers forced the team to make that deal. The cap room had to be opened up and it was a deal that had to be done. Jake's agent held ALL the cards and got himself and his player some money. It wasn't about paying Jake the money he deserved or what he was worth, it was about the situation the team was in and which side had the upper hand in negotiations.

I honestly want Fox to stay. I think he can bring a superbowl to Charlotte. This is a very good football team with a few holes(as every team has) and one giant hole. Fox needs to let go of the extraneous circumstances and do what needs to be done. It's a huge leap of faith starting Moore but that's simply what needs to be done.

Well the trade was with the hopes that we would do well this year but the coaching staff kind of screwed us over on that. The move wasn't technically bad on Hurney's end it just put us in a bad place now that we did do poorly.

The extension was an effort to free up some cap space that did turn out to be an error in judgement but I can imagine we could convince Jake to retire and give him a settlement or something of that nature if we do decide to part ways with him.

The moves he made for Leonard and Tank seem to have been good ones, both will be back next year and our DL will be STOUT even if we don't resign Peppers.

Hurney isn't to blame on this one, Fox is.

At this point he and Fox have nothing to lose, they might as well go for it. The unwillingness to change in these circumstances based on loyalty will only be viewed as a weakness by the potential future employers.

I disagree Ak. By that logic we know Delhomme is bound to throw a pick. You might as well give Moore the best opportunity he can to prepare for next week and get him as many 1st team reps as possible. It would probably help Matt's nerves more as well if you start him rather than throw him in there whenever Jake throws a pick.

What I'm wondering is what if Matt Moore does really well? What if he is starter material? I just think it would be really weird to see Jake on the side lines you know? He's supposed to be one of the leaders, and he's riding the bench. Don't know how well he would take it, hopefully he'll help Moore as best he can.

I think Fox and Hurney are going to ride Jake to the ground- sink or swim-

iF they were looking for the "best oppertunity" they would have yanked Jake today after INT #2

Nope... I've come to realization that Jake is nothing more than a backup QB... he should realize it too. Thats life in the NFL career

Well we all know that the QB position is the most scarce when it comes to finding talent. Every year in the NFL, there's 5 elite QB's, 5 in that 2nd tier, and the rest are just average. They're what you call "game managers." They won't lose you games, but if you call on them to win you a game single handedly, they wouldn't be able to do it.

Was Jake ever considered an elite QB ?? No. Was Jake ever considered a 2nd tier QB? Yes. At one point he was, and for whatever reasons he lost that. Last year, Jake was in that category of a "game manager." And because finding elite QB's or those 2nd tier QB's are extremely difficult in the NFL, upper management pulled the trigger and gave him a contract extension, and deservingly so. Unfortunately he doesn't fall into any category right now, and there's only one other starting QB in the NFL that sails in that same boat and that's Jamarcus Russell.

If you can just protect the ball and manage the game efficiently, you'll be a starting QB in the NFL. That just shows you how hard talent is to find. However if you can't be atleast a game manager, you don't deserve to start in the NFL. I can name you several teams that will pull the trigger in a second if their starting QB is starting to become a burden to the team (unless you're trying to groom a rookie). Right now Jake is a burden to the team and a change doesn't need to be made, it has to be made.

Bottom line Jake has had his run with the team and it was a good one. But it is time for hurney and fox to make a change. If they make the change now and it works out with moore. Then Fox might get another year with the team. But if fox and hurney keep on going with Jake then Fox and hurney is done after this year.
