Our First three picks in 2017 draft our best in team history?

Exactly. If we find good dline pieces, get rid of Mike Adams, and Cam gets healthy again we could be turn into a contender.

Lol this team is not even close to being a contender. Even with Cam healthy our sorry ass coach will hold us back. Defense is terrible and needs a lot of work. Don't see playoffs next year either.

Our sorry coach took us to the super bowl. All we need is a pass rush and a stable secondary and we'll be okay. We're not the Jaguars or the Browns of yesteryear. We have good pieces.

Its too early to tell, but the future does look promising if we ever fix the oline and dline. I think the 2017 and 2018 drafts were great for the first few rounds , all we're really missing is a LT, LG C, and a great DE (which dont all have to be answered through the draft).

  • McCaffrey : Looks amazing and was arguably the best duel threat RB in the league in his 2nd year. Made gigantic improvements in power and always gaining positive yardage. May be the best pass catching RB in the game besides James White (NE).
  • Samuel : May be the most dynamic player on the team, pretty much our version of Tyreek Hill if we ever fix the oline's pass pro problems and Cam gets back to 100%
  • Moton : Is great at RT and decent at LT, an absolute steal as a low 2nd rounder
  • Armah: As a 6th round FB, incredible value. Good blocker, and has decent speed and hands.
  • DJ : Is a master at getting extra yards, fighting through contact, getting open. Only problem is his fumbling, once he gets over that he will be deadly.
  • Donte : Had an incredible first half of the season, didn't do so well in some of the 2nd half but you cant put that all on him. Him picking off the 2 point conversion and running it back for a TD showed how game changing he can be.
  • Ian Thomas : Was a steal in the 4th round, showed great potential as a pass catching TE

If we win a SB or make some deep playoff runs in the next 3-4 seasons then I'd say yes. But as it stands right now we've won a total of 0 playoff games since the 2015 season ended.

If we woudlve kept Butker and axed Gano 2017 would be up for the best Panther draft ever in 3-4 more years.

It may be really close. Morgan and Jenkins had 3 great years and 2 more good years. The 2003 run immortalizes them but outside of Smith, they really didn’t have long great careers.

I think you're underselling Jenkins. 4 Pro Bowls, 2 First Team All Pros, 2 Second Team All Pros in a 9 year career.  That's a good career for a first round pick, much less a second rounder.

Jenkins made up most of those years I mentioned. He was definitely more valuable than Morgan. That said, I wasn’t including his good Jets year for us. Kawann Short has had a better career for us so far. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of disagreements but he has.

Also, I am absolutely not saying Jenkins was a bad pick or player in any way. It’s sort of sad looking at our draft history knowing that so far we only have 3 years (2001 and potentially 2017/2018) where the top 3 guys all contributed meaningful good years to the team.

Having 3 guys that were pro bowl/all pro within their first 3-4 years in the league with a 1st/2nd/3rd round pick AND going on to have a long successful career is more rare than you might think. I'd be interested to see how many other teams could make that claim and if so, how much more often they do it than us.

2002 had a good top 3 as well.

Edit: 2006 was pretty solid.

    • Can't argue with you much on this. I've been banging the drum for years now that we need to take a center in the draft, and I have said grab the best one available, first or second rounds. I know, they say you never take them in the first, but the best O-lines in the league generally have a guy they grabbed there or the second. I'm not sold that we can't do better at center than we have now, although things have been better. And yeah, I see about two more years for Moton after this one and Icky will be looking for money. Icky still needs to improve, though. He's getting better with good guard help and experience, but he's still not in the top half of the LTs starting in the league.
    • I was hoping we'd get him the first go around. But Roy wanted Hubert. 😔 I hope Wes comes home soon.
    • Back in my 20s, I lived in a flat over a Hallmark store in downtown West Jefferson for about five years. It was some of the best times of my life. The only difficulty was that right outside my bedroom window was the town's massive fire siren. It was good that I was the local newspaper editor and had to go out and cover house fires and whatnot, because when that siren fired up, it would just about blow me out of my bed and into the next room. Deafened, I might as well get dressed, grab a camera and follow the fire trucks as they'd roll out.
