After Cam’s surgery does our offense change?

Since our franchise QB just went under the knife for the second time in 3 years does this mean a change for our offense?  It’s not a mystery that we will go as far as Cam takes us.  I’m pretty sure the knuckleheads in the front office are trying to figure out a plan keep him healthy and on the field.

So does this mean we have seen the last days of the Read option?  Can Cam actually excel as a normal drop back passer?   How often are they going to call designed runs for 100 million dollar asset going forward?

Tepper talked about the offensive line.  I’m wondering if we are going to start solidifying our OL finally.

This will be a really interesting off season with a ton of holes on defense and trying to keep your QB upright and actually on the field.

Common sense would suggest we're going to upgrade the o-line to elite level. There are multiple factors involved in the upcoming upgrade:

1.) Cam has to be protected at a high level to avoid further injury. Letting him run for his life is no longer a reasonable option.

2.) Cam sometimes takes longer to read the field and needs more time in the pocket. He also throws much better in a clean pocket, stepping in.

3.) It is very likely that RR is feeling anxiety over securing his next coaching contract with the Panthers. This anxiety is directly linked to Cam's shoulder, so see reason #1.

4.) Tepper, Marty, and everyone in the Panthers organization is deeply concerned with Cam's shoulder. See reason #1.

5.) A premium o-line allows us to maximize the talent of our two most important players, Cam and CMC. Better rushing lanes for CMC results in more big run plays, and allows Cam to throw shorter passes more often saving his shoulder, and makes throwing the deep ball less dangerous. Teams will be wary of the CMC run.

6.) Burning the clock by controlling the ball on long drives keeps the defense fresh and can help keep the opposing offense out of rhythm. This also allows the refs to be flag happy on our side with the offense running an assload of plays all day. More plays, more penalties on the opposing defense in today's ticky tac touchy NFL. The NFL wants points, so keep the offense out there and the flags will fly.

7.) Rams versus Pats. Offense versus offense. Saints ran away with the NFCS using offense. It's time to join modern football. If run doesn't do it the next coach will.

It’s VERY hard to have an elite o-line, a 100 mill+ QB, and have money to be competitive at other positions (D-line?)

I expect an o line upgrade via the draft. That’s prob going to be it.

The key to our offense’s success will be Cams deep ball. CMC + the threat of an accurate deep ball will do wonders.

Without the deep ball, next year will be a repeat.

People on this forum want Cam to have an elite o-line, weapons at wr, elite coaching and a backfield weapon like cmc in order for him to succeed. Anyone will succeed with all that.

There is ZERO thought to the cap and paying these players let alone a defense to stop the other team.

At some point these weapons will want money. Something will have to give. No such thing as a perfect team.

But a lot of this also has to do with where the cap is being allocated. If he had an LT playing M Kalil contracts worth we wouldn’t be here.

i personally am still waiting for a doctors reason as to WHY Cam's shoulder is damaged in the first place! Maybe I missed it and please huddlers point me to it if it exists.

Is the shoulder injury because he has taken too many hits?  Is it because (as i suspect) he has been using physical ability to cover up for a lack in footwork and pro level throwing motion and training? Is it because he is just genetically cursed to have bad shoulders?

    • I find it interesting that TMac was shown here practicing without gloves.  Is that a new approach to improving hands because the gloves are so sticky?   If you think about the draft and evaluated the talent at each position and rate them by round, you see what the Panthers did--get the best WR in the draft.  in round 2, you had WRs like Bech and Tre Harris going--meanwhile, the Panthers grabbed Scourton (late first round grade) and Princely (expected to be drafted in the middle of the second round).   Bech and Harris were projected to be third rounders.   If you evaluate the draft by your expectations of the performance of the talent, you are guessing and trying for clicks.  However, if you understand the depth of talent at each position and align that with needs,  the strategy becomes the issue--not a subjective guess.  Did the Panthers address WR and Edge wisely, considering the players likely to be available?  Yes.   Ask yourself this:  In the Panther system, is it possible that Scourton would be a better edge than Walker?  I think he is a better fit.  Princely?  Better fit.   Morgan had an excellent draft.  When you see Ransom play S, you will be convinced that it was a Home Run.  That pick was solid and he will be here for a long time.
    • Wasn't sure where to put this; can't start a new thread.  Anyone paying attention to the CWS?  Tarheels cruise in first two games, set up regional championship with fully rested bullpen and tons of momentum.   On the road to Omaha!
    • Or it could be because we are building a pretty good team that is going to compete.  But I expect us to win the division this year.
