Bears just re-signed RT Bobby Massie to a four-year contract

With the Kalil fiasco everyone should know what you meant.  The guaranteed money is the killer.  I'm all for Williams getting somthing near what Massie got per year, but if he insists on guaranteed money then I'd say farewell and move OT to the top of the draft priority list.

NO NFL PLAYER WITH ANY VALUE IS GOING TO SIGN AN 'INCENTIVE LADEN' CONTRACT.  And even "decent" tackles hold a lot of value in the NFL.

Players recover from knee injuries all the time.  Some of y'all acting like Williams was out multiple games every year due to bad knees or something.

If Williams knee was a standard knee ligament injury and Rivera playing him while injured didn't screw it up for life, then he will be just like tons of other players in the NFL... recovered from a knee injury and returning to play at (or very very near) the same level he was playing previously.  And that level was pretty darned good.

We either pay him at or near top RT money/bonuses/guaranteed or he leaves.  There will be no "injury clauses" or "incentive laden contracts" and there will certainly be no "home town discounts".  Primarily because, except for very rare cases, most agents are very good at what they do and aren't stupid.  And that's primarily because the more money the player makes, the more money the agent makes.

If Ron *did* ruin his knee, then there is no reason to re-sign him at all.

Cam is coming off his 2nd shoulder surgery in as many years, Ryan Kalil is retiring and Matt Kalil missed all of last season.

Having Daryl walk in free agency is simply not an option. Hurney will be forced to overpay to keep him from even hitting free agency.

Daryl Williams is our biggest offseason priority.

  1. Looks like Walter football has Massie ranked the #4 tackle in FA and Williams #3.
  2.
  3. panthersb_logo.gif Daryl Williams, OT, Panthers. Age: 27.  star.gifstar.gifstar.gifstar.gif
Daryl Williams was sorely missed in 2018. He played just one game because of a knee injury. Williams is Carolina's best offensive lineman, and he's only 27 (in August), so he's still due a large contract despite barely playing last year.

  4. bearsb_logo.gif Bobby Massie, OT, Bears. Age: 30. star.gifstar.gifstar.gif
    Re-signed with Bears

Bobby Massie was once considered a liability as a starter on the offensive line, but he has improved each year. He's become a solid right tackle who pass protects very well. Given the weak tackle class in the 2019 NFL Draft, some team might offer him more money than he's worth.

Hopefully the injury won’t push him way out of reach

I was just talking about this in the senior bowl thread.  Let the headache begin.

Watching the Senior game and practices it is apparent that this year is a pretty good class for interior OL.  I have lots of questions marks about the tackles.  Dillard may have some potential but I’m not sure he is a day 1 starter which is what we need. That leaves Williams, Cojuste, Taylor, or Edwards draftable Day 1 tackles.  I also thinks it drives up the price for Darryl Williams on the FA market.

Interested to see how Hurney works this one out.

Can any one say Speed Bump McGee at LT?  SMH.

I will be studying those 4 remaining tackles pretty hard.

Greg little is a day 1 starter

This makes me believe that we can use the money for Dontari Poe & Matt Kalil to instead retain Daryl Williams and Eric Reid.

Torrey Smith, Captain Munnerlyn, Ross Cockrell, Da'Norris Searcy, and Mario Addison could open up enough for Jadaveon Clowney, a nickelback, and OL vet.

Go draft Dexter Lawrence.

3-4 transition complete AND we keep DWill!

Daryl Williams wanting top dollar coming from a major knee injury?

I'd take my chances of letting him walk and let Taylor Moton man the right spot and draft a left tackle in this offensive line rich draft class.

Too risky. If Montez Sweat or Rashan Gary are there at #16, are we reaching for a need and lesser players like Juwaan Taylor or Greg Little?

If we’re going 3-4 and trading for a rush OLB, would prefer Ford over Clowney.

Rumor had it the Panthers insulted him with their offer. Believe it or not, in the Panthers OL system, finding an average RT is not difficult. People blast Mike Remmers, but after he was inserted as RT they went something like 26-7. You can not pay top 5 money at all the positions, simply put.

I'm 99.6% sure Gary and or sweat will be there for us. But if but if those two are there for us and little. I'm glad I won't be making that pick for us. I think we have to go left tackle. We haven't had a franchise LT since our 2013 campaign. And I think it has shown enough. But, hey. I'm just hoping we get a good player. That's all.

Yeah.  Kind of wrote him off because some scouts call him lazy.  But he has been starting since a freshman.  Maybe it’s just that he is complacent in his role. Watched some tape on him.  He is smooth as crap!

Imo I think he would perform very well for us considering our division's finnese pass-rushers.

26-7 overall, but 0-1 in the game that really counted and a HUGE reason why we lost that game was that we didn't have a RT who could handle a speed rusher.
