He was undrafted but signed by him. Doesn’t really matter does it? He was obtained without a draft pick but on the same day the draft ended. I guess we won’t give him credit for that?

& no in fact  the Carolina Panthers did NOT sign Andrew Norwell on the same day that the draft had ended not even the day after.

And what does any of that have to do with getting an All-Pro G without even using a draft pick? Which was the only point and a valid one.

I'm not going to debate this because it's in the past & irrelevant to me now.

i was simply and ONLY pointing out fallacy's in not one but TWO of his post in this one thread.

What’s to debate? If there is something to “debate”, there is no simply. That implies an issue.  What about the information was misleading? That it was actually more impressive than any draft pick?

read above i edited misleading from my previous post simply because you are right & I am WRONG in stating that.

& yes you are right once again Andrew Norwell was an outstanding UDFA signing

He’s trying to nitpick when it doesn’t matter. Some people get off on that. It wasn’t pertinent to the discussion so I decided not to qualify it. Anyone who follows the Panthers as much as I do knows exactly what round each of the four guys I mentioned were in or that Norwell was UDFA.

If anything, he’s trying to mislead on Norwell’s signing acting like it wasn’t part of the draft. I didn’t go to Wikipedia like he did to try and act like May 12th signing means that a deal wasn’t in place after the draft. This place is a poo show this offseason. It’s one thing to correct someone who thinks we have an extra third for KB this draft. It’s another to act like the official signing on May 12th means it wasn’t done as part of the draft.

You made the mistake of using facts. Those never get received well.

So, Gettleman drafted Williams, Moton, Turner and Norwell in 5 years and picked up guys like Oher and Remmers (yes, I went there, he had a great run until the Super Bowl and was awful at LT when Oher got hurt). Could you imagine if Gettleman actually ignored the OL like it’s always said that he did? 2016 was a crap fest because we had 1 OL who actually played the entire year at his actual position. Other than that injury plagued year, the OL has had weakness at one spot (Kalil) or has been top 5 (like end of 2014 and 2015) and went to the playoffs 4 out 5 years.

Hurney comes in for one year and gets rid of Norwell (we paid more to Poe and Smith) and drafts no OL yet the state of the OL is Gettleman’s fault? If Gettleman hadn’t drafted 3 players who went to the pro-bowl or were all-pro and Moton, Cam would be in a body bag.

Gettleman had several years to put an exclamation point at LT as opposed to question marks. "Can he play LT?" did not originate under Hurney. LT is usually regarded as the most I important position on the O-line, and that's why they're paid the most on average (and probably top three or four on pro football teams in general). The Rams actually did what the Panthers should have done (and plenty argued it at the time). Penn also was an option while the window was still wide open. Hell, I would have rather had Okung than Kalil.

Trying to suggest that Hurney couldn't put together a decent O-line for the relative long haul does not quite jibe with franchise history. His biggest fault in my opinion was overpaying for a washed up Delhomme, investing too much into RBs (especially D-Will), robbing Peter to pay Paul and kicking the can down the road. But even Delhomme's contract, as crazy as it was, pales into comparison to signing an injury-riddled, grossly underperforming LT to a contract that was damn near worthy of a top 10 LT in the league.

The contract was awful, and there's simply no defense of it. The ONLY place where I saw people trying to defend it was on Carolina Huddle.

At the end of the day, regardless of the GM, we need a true LT. EVERYONE should be hoping that Hurney can find our next Jordan Gross this offseason.

Dg didn’t address the o line, he hit everyone with a historic pump fake by being cheap and building the cap up, good moves considering the mess he came into but when the time finally came to make a big purchase he wiffed hard on kalil, unacceptable along with using Nate chandler as a tackle. Idk why norwell is being brought up unfortunately he was good as gone when we resigned/extended turner. Darryl Williams really is going to or should play a big part in how we attack fa and the draft

Once again,  at the beginning of 2018, Moton was in  competition with Williams at RT and Kalil at LT.  He did not win either job.  Then when Kalil went down, Moton was playing RT, but  he did not move over to LT--instead we signed a street free agent to play LT.

I do not see why people are assuming that Moton will be the LT.  I want him to play LT--it would solve some problems---but if he can't  beat out Matt Kalil, and if they don't move him there when it is open, I am guessing they do not like him at the second most important position on the offense.

I would not be surprised to see Kalil never play another down---I  woudd not be  surprised to see him  starting at LT.  I would not  be surprised to see Moton there--but there are NO signs that suggest they will.

Norwell wasn't as good as gone. Maybe he was when Gettleman was fired before Norwell's last year with us. We spent more money on Poe and Smith this year than the Jags spent on Norwell.

Yeah but that would have meant Williams would probably be gone for sure. I  think it would have been hard regardless the gm, to keep this group of tuner, norwell,Williams and moton together long term. Believe me I wanted to keep norwell, liked him more than turner, even thought cutting Ryan should have been and option to keep him last offseason, but guards aren’t too hard to replace and we fair we’ll without him, the tackles need to be solved long term, which we may be close to doing

Everyone knew Norwell was good as gone for all intents and purposes, and neither Smith or Poe really had ANYTHING to do with it.

In any event, this thread should be about our need for an LT.
