Definitely not happy Hurney is back , just frustrated that our o-line hasn’t been seriously addressed since Gross left

See my other post... we have spent more on draft picks and FA assets on defense over the Rivera years than offense.

And now here many sit, insisting (not untruthfully) that the defense requires an "overhaul".

And that, my friend, will prevent us from "seriously addressing" the o-line unfortunately.

Why oh why does this team, with a DEFENSIVE Head Coach and spending MORE assets on the DEFENSIVE Head Coach's defense year after year after year, require an overhaul on defense at this point?

We've spent more on cap space on the offense I think every year for the last 6 years.

I agree with you about draft picks but this idea the offense have been ignored is overplayed around here.

At times Cam has had one of the highest paid centers in the league, one of the best TEs, some of the highest paid RBs (Williams and Stewart), a first round RB , a first round Receiver, traded up to the top of the 2nd for another receiver, another receiver in the second, another receiver in the first, one of the highest paid RGs, one of the highest paid LTs (I know he hasn't played well but that doesn't change the fact they spent the resources,

I'm not saying all the decisions have worked but they have allocated resources to the offense.

I know this isn't popular but I'd rather cut Kalil pre june 1 and take all of the dead money this year and be free of it in 2020 even if that makes 2019 more likely to fail.

We really need to find some undrafted free agent gems to get better.  Norwell version 2.

yes...but we need DE as well...would be great to get one of each thru draft and one of each thru FA

need a safety and nickel as well

And I would be happy with Sweat or another DE as well,.. and also a corner.

ive said the first 4 picks ideally would be OT, DE, CB, Safety or Center in no particular order.

with the heavy supply of defensive linemen it would be logical to grab the best offensive players early and the best Dline later but we will see.

let me ask you guys a question.  At pick 16, the top 2 guys on our board are DE and LT, and we have them rated evenly.

Which position do your choose?

That depends on what happens with Williams.

If Williams is resigned I go DE.

If Williams is not resigned then I look to see which position I think I can fill in the second and then take the other in the first.

Or if I think I can fill both in the second then I trade down in the first to the point one of the two is left.

You have to look at the entire draft.  The goal is to get as many picks right as possible.

Don’t worry about the dead cap. If we cut Kalil we save $7m this year and $6m next year. That’s net savings over the sunk costs we can’t get rid of now. It also means no new cash for him so real savings and why do we want to pay an extra $7m for him to sit on the bench. I’d rather have Newhouse/Clark as our backups.

We need to resign Williams or pick a tackle and Moton plays whichever side the other tackle can’t. Williams can’t play left but a rookie could play either since we don’t know who.

And we would certainly be able to structure Williams' first year salary to fit within that 7 million cap figure, so it wouldn't even really effect our current cap number.  So, with the 25 million or so that we currently have (before cuts and restructures), we could focus on finding pass rushing help and filling other holes such as G and C.

So, Gettleman drafted Williams, Moton, Turner and Norwell in 5 years and picked up guys like Oher and Remmers (yes, I went there, he had a great run until the Super Bowl and was awful at LT when Oher got hurt). Could you imagine if Gettleman actually ignored the OL like it’s always said that he did? 2016 was a crap fest because we had 1 OL who actually played the entire year at his actual position. Other than that injury plagued year, the OL has had weakness at one spot (Kalil) or has been top 5 (like end of 2014 and 2015) and went to the playoffs 4 out 5 years.

Hurney comes in for one year and gets rid of Norwell (we paid more to Poe and Smith) and drafts no OL yet the state of the OL is Gettleman’s fault? If Gettleman hadn’t drafted 3 players who went to the pro-bowl or were all-pro and Moton, Cam would be in a body bag.

Gettlemen didn't draft Norwell

the competition in your division dictates how you counter move...it's like playing chess.

He was undrafted but signed by him. Doesn’t really matter does it? He was obtained without a draft pick but on the same day the draft ended. I guess we won’t give him credit for that?

simply put...Andrew Norwell was an Undrafted Free Agent or as an acronym UDFA.

i was just trying to HELP you correct an error.with that said the edit button is your friend & have a nice day
