Third time was the charm when it came to TD. Just saying.

Yeah, it'd be better if he didn't need surgery but he's had a lingering shoulder issue now for a couple of years. Gotta get it fixed.

Three different procedures. The third was more extensive and needed  more rehab but was the one most likely to work. That is why they didn't do ithe more extensive procedure right away on TD.

They would not have the team doctor actually do any cutting I don't think.

"cutting" doesn't happen in ortho procedures like this anymore; it's all arthroscopic. The reason recovery times have decreased so much over the past 2 decades is they don't just cut everything open; the body has less it needs to heal. Surgery is trauma, and they've gotten amazing at procedures like this. They'll only be cutting him open if they're doing a total or partial knee/shoulder/hip whatever; something where they have to get a prosthesis in there.

As far as "team doctor," the panthers farm out their needs to certain orthopedic groups. There's no "team ortho" or whatever hanging out at BoA. They have a team doctor who can order tests (and make sure everyone is pilled up) but those tests (MRI, Xray etc) are sent out to ortho groups.

The Panthers have one of the best in the SE. Furthermore, the kind of procedures they do are very simple. Ortho has come a long way since Patrick Jeffers.

Letting him continue to play with a torn rotator cuff down the stretch in '16 when we were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs certainly doesn't inspire great confidence. It may have happened again this season.

No structural damage would suggest the totator cuff was fixed properly the first time. The likely cause now was increased inflammation and scar tissue. Which is common with rotator cuff surgery.
