Derwin James went 17 last year and I’m pretty sure he was far more regarded than Adderly and Thompson this year. Assuming any safety this year is top 20 is incorrect. Maybe they will but it’s very likely they won’t. Look at all the FA safeties who are around just like last year.

If we went by all the “no way he lasts to X pick posts” there’d be 20 top 10 players and 60 first rounders. There will only be 15 players gone before our pick. I could see Sweat being gone before our pick if he blows through the combine, but I’d be surprised if Adderly does and that wouldn’t make him a certain top 20 pick in my book.

Agreed. Safeties were slow movie in free agency too. Weird that so many teams are seemingly overlooking safety with the league moving more and more toward pass heavy offenses.

Zach Allen worries me a bit as well. If he’s no blowing through doors this week, will he provide any pressure for us? Run stuffing is nice but against our division rushing the passer is far more important.

I like Allen, I just dont think he's a 1st rounder. I see him being a better version of Wes Horton type of pro. That's not a bad thing, that's just not a first round prospect.

Hopefully a few QBs get over drafted.  Best case 3 go and that would mean just 12 non QBs will be off the board.

Then who?  I understand the concern with Allen, and I'm not saying he is the best pick at 16 but people need to understand there is a difference in the positions.  Sweat or Burns might be more dynamic pass rushers and either or both might turn out to be "better" but that doesn't mean either can play the left side better than Allen or someone like him.

Who do we have at RDE right now?  Addison and Haynes?

Who do we have at LDE right now?

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if we drafted 2 DEs this year.

I wasn't necessarily saying to pick him at 16, more of a question who fits the profile of a LDE for us.

Like most people around here I would love to see Sweat at 16, but I'm not convinced that solves our problem at LDE.  How do we improve the other side?

Mario is 31 and entering the final year of his contract. It's not like we don't also have a need at RDE. We could draft any DL position at #16 and it would absolutely be justified.

Jaylon Ferguson is another guy who fits that 4-3 LDE mold.

I agree the RDE spot needs upgrading also, but I think people around here lose track of the difference between RDE and LDE.  The original twitter post that TheSpecialJuan linked just talked about the glaring need at LDE.

Who do we have under contract at RDE?  Addison, Haynes

LDE?  ? ?

Where do we put Obada

I just find it amusing people around here are more worried about upgrading the spot where are best DE is at, then upgrading the spot where we have no one under contract.

Here again, if we have a chance to get a 1st round RDE at 16 and the only LDE on the board has a second round grade you go with the RDE so by no means am I saying we need to reach for a LDE.

I think it's because the pass rushers most likely to be available to us at #16 better fit the RDE mold. Hell, I wouldn't be mad about a double dip. Give me a guy like Sweat in the 1st and a guy like Allen or Ferguson in the 2nd.

Andre Dillard was my pick I was hoping to get in the second but he’s climbing fast.

he may be the best pick for 16,.. a true Left Tackle.

Couldn't make it to the practice today

And yesterdays was closed off at the college

But I dont see him rising

He struggeld a good bit tuesday

He had one good run block that stood out

Oshane Ximines- abused him pretty good.  Probably the most obvious hold call and pretty much the only one where they called the play dead was on Dillard.  Ximines beat him pretty bad once then the very next play again, Dillard was no match for him and grabbed/wrestled him to the ground hoping for dear life.

He looked a lot like Remmers 2.0.

Think his offense really helped him in college all spread out where he just had to worry a lot of 3 man or 4 man fronts rushing and not a front 7

Watching Allen the other day.

Im not sure Id want him unless we are getting him as a 3-4 DE.

He really struggled to get any pressure whatso ever on the edge.  Only time he got pressure was inside where he beat the OG which he showed flashes.  When outside jist didnt have the bend and burst.  He got put on his butt twice out there

Watching him.  He reminded me of the kid from Florida the the Jaguars drafted last year

Even on some of his highlight vids you don't really see much bend and burst, but that isn't really what he is.  Like you said he might be better as a 3-4 DE or maybe a LDE in a 4-3 that can move inside on third down passing situations.

I'm not saying he should be the pick at 16, or even that he is going to a great player, just pointing out there are DEs that do more than just "bend" and speed rush from the QB's blindside.
