He’s why I never understood the Brian Burns mocks to us. If we were going edge rusher, get one that could play either scheme, and the potential to easily fill out enough to play 3 downs at 4-3 DE. Burns May never weigh what Sweat does now.

Yeah, Burns' weight has to be slightly concerning even for 3-4 teams. Lots of teams are going to to be watching that scale closely at the Combine.

- After his terrific week at the Shrine Game, many are excited to see the arrival of Jimmy Moreland from James Madison, who was not on hand for weigh-ins this morning as a last-minute invite. People I’ve spoken with compare Moreland to former New York Jets first-round pick Aaron Glenn, as the small-school corner has a similar build and skill set to the three-time Pro Bowl corner.

- I am higher than most on defensive end Zach Allen, and I spoke at length with Chuck Smith, the Atlanta Falcons’ second-round pick in 1992 and an All Pro selection in 1997, as he’s been training Allen in the lead-up to the Senior Bowl and the combine. Smith told me Allen may not test well, but he considers Allen a great football player who will develop into a dominant three-down defender at the next level.

- Another player Smith raved about, and someone he’s only watched on film, is underclassman Maxx Cosby of Eastern Michigan. Smith loves everything about Crosby’s game and believes he can be a dominant three-down player at the next level.

.

Just got back.

Didnt get to see but a tail end of the South Practice.

From what I saw in the scrimmage

Grier looked solid nothing special.  He was off on 2 of his throws more than 10 yards.

Sweat looks like a beast.

Now the North

Daniel Jones was the best QB out there.  Reminded me of a young Eli.  Great touch and really read the field.

Lock was the 2nd best, kid really has the zip on the ball.

Finley Really disappointed.  Dude was waaay off.  About the only big completion he had was to a fellow state WR.  He was 5-10 yards off on a Lot of throws. He put one high and the WR had to climb to ladder on just to get and about got killed on the hit.  No way the guy could even beat out Kyle Allen.

Andy Isabella is a dam firecracker.  FAST and Quick.  Kid got open out of the slot.  1 reception he got it and turned up field, and put a nasty spin move that put 1-2 defenders on skates.  They couldne even catch him.  Cant wait to see him in the game.

Dalton Risner- was hot and cold.  Kid has the quickest feet I saw out of any OL there.  He had a few real good blocks.  In the OL vs DL drills he got beat 1-2 times from the outside

The Wren kid really gave fits on the inside.  POWERFUL.  Really got push with his strength.

Both Wisconsin Interior OL looked solid.

Chris Lindstrom looked real good as well.

Bradbury looked like the top Center.  Really athletic and read the D well.  Needs to add strength though.  Got pushed back on bull rushes (for example Wren)

Zach Allen Really disappointed me.  Really was looking forward to him.  Kid coupd get any pressure whatso ever on the edge.  Only pressure he had was inside on a OG (think it was the kid from Charlotte).  He also got put on his butt 2-3 times.

Anthony Nelson just doesnt look athletic enough.

LJ Collier  out of TCU caught eyes.  Risner (out at OT) handled him on a play and got in his head.  It got a little chippy.  After that, he was easily in the backfield on several occasions

Jalen Jelks- wasnt watching him that much, and he played more standup 3-4 OLB in college.  But kid is Athletic and really flew into the backfield blowing past his man a few times that really drew attention

Mcgary out of Washington isnt going to be a LT, but he was a winner today.  Kid is a mountain of a man.  And looked solid out at RT.  In the OL/DL drills, he had the edge DL on the ground 2-3 plays in a row that drew a Lot of Oooos and Aaahs from all the scouts sitting around and in the stands.

Will be interesting to see how Sweat and Burns compare throughout the draft season.  They both seem to really athletic guys, with length, that need to add some weight.

Burns is small.

Came to FSU as a 3-4 OLB, forced into the 4-3DE spot in the new staffs defense.  He had a solid year but you could tell the drop in his play from the 2.  He played at around 230-235. Rail thin very much so like Haynes

Sweat is bigger at 252.  Has played his hands in the dirt the whole time at Miss State.

Dude didnt look as skinny as everyone makes him out to be seeing him in person today.  Super tall, long, and lean.  Reminded me a little of a young Pep seeing him in person.

Allen really unimpressed today.  I wouldnt take him in the first if he is what he was like today.  Kid got put on his azz a few times today by OTs.

Crosby I hadnt looked much into him.  But quite a few scouts sitting around me were really murmuring about him

Senior Bowl Risers - Day 1

Jarrett Stidham/QB/Auburn: Freed from his poor fit in the Tigers offense, Stidham looked the part of a legitimate NFL quarterback Tuesday. Despite windy and colder-than-normal conditions, his passes had plenty of velocity and maintained that zip both down the field and to the sideline. He made good decisions and fit several nice throws in between zone coverages. After a disappointing senior season, Stidham can really boost his draft stock if he continues to show well in Mobile.

Deebo Samuel/WR/South Carolina: Samuel was always open at South practice, and all four quarterbacks seemed extremely comfortable and confident throwing to him. At 216 pounds with the ability to stick his foot in the ground and cut on a dime, he's nearly impossible to stop on slants and other in-breaking routes and consistently created separation against opposing corners before picking up yardage after the catch. His 10 1/8-inch hands are very sticky and allow him to make catches at full extension even when he can't get his fingers around the ball. The difference between Samuel and every other receiver at the Senior Bowl is already obvious.

Tytus Howard/OT/Alabama State: Howard was as good as advertised during the first practice. Lining up exclusively at right tackle, he looked explosive and athletic and blocked with great fundamentals. For the most part, he got the better of the top-rated talent he faced off against including Montez Sweat, Oshane Ximines and Carl Granderson. Howard looks as though he will easily handle right-tackle duties, so we’ll see if he’ll make the switch to the left side in the next day or so.

Elgton Jenkins/OL/Mississippi State: Jenkins lined up at both guard as well as center and dominated at both positions. He was quick, explosive and powerful. He beat SEC opponent Dontavius Russell on consecutive snaps, at one point throwing the 300-pound defender to the ground. Jenkins entered the week ranked as the top center in the nation, and he strengthened his hold at the position.

When you say a "young Pep" you must mean like sophomore in HS young. Pep was always yoked. Just a WAY bigger guy than Sweat. Thicker built with a lot more natural bulk. That doesn't mean Sweat won't be an excellent pro, Peppers was just a lot bigger coming out of college. He looked bigger in a basketball jersey than Sweat does in pads.

A better comparison to me would be Jason Taylor. Sweat will never have a thick build like Pep but can use his speed and length like Taylor did.
