How has supersonic flight not been brought back to the masses?

Unfortunately the airlines want fuel efficiency rather than speed or comfort nowadays. Anything with more than 2 engines is on its way out, even jumbo jets. They want smaller planes you can travel halfway around the world without refuelling - but who honestly wants to be on a plane for 18 hours?

I live a few miles from an international train station outside London. 30 mins check-in, then 1 hour 30 mins late and I’m walking out of the station in the middle of Paris or Brussels. It beats a pokey 1-2 hour flight somewhere.

Is US Air still in operation? Back when I lived in Charlotte I used to go direct to Gatwick with them.
