Wait...I thought the NFL was rigged

Conspiracy theories almost always omit one key element: how do they remain hidden from view?  Think of all the people who would have to be involved in this one.  The owners would have to know.  The officials would have to know.  Even some segment of the players would probably have to know, probably just the big names.

Why would JR, or someone similar, keep his mouth shut when he was shoved out the door?  Why would any official who was either pushed out or retired keep his mouth shut?  Why would a retired player, especially one that was on the short end, keep his mouth shut indefinitely?  At some point somebody would either say something or some reference to it would slip out in conversation.

There is precedent.  Think about the NBA influencing the outcome of playoff games.  How did that slip out?  We live in an age where actual information can get out in front of millions with the stroke of an enter key.

Threatening people does not work well.  In something as big as the NFL, the person would make far more money on the “tell all circuit” than they would from an NFL pension.  Unless the NFL is holding people's families hostage, keeping this quiet would not last long.

I worked with somebody much wiser than me who told me "don't ever look for a conspiracy when mere incompetence will explain the situation."  People have a lot of trouble with the idea that poo happens, and it often happens at the worst possible time.

It’s such a silly thought.

The nfl is making record amounts of money each year and has the full attention of their target audience.  They have everything lose and very little to gain by trying to rig the games.

every team has a potential compelling storyline.

saints win: THEY WANT BREES BRADY BOWL

rams win: THEY WANT PATS RAMS REMATCH

fuging morons, the lot of them

What I think a lot of people really don't seem to grasp is just how many people would have to be complacent for the NFL to successfully rig even a single game, much less an entire playoffs.

And not even one of those people has ever come out and said anything? This including guys who are broke now? Really?

The whole notion is just beyond silly.

We had a bad season. We didn't make the playoffs. We lost two Super Bowls. It happens. Doesn't mean any of it was rigged against us.

Get over it.

Ref's choke sometimes too.

I think it usually washes out even over the course of a game but that last one is the one everyone always remembers.

Saints got the benefit of running some plays after the play clock had already gone to zero, more than once if I remember correctly.

If Payton hadn't mismanaged that last possession so badly they wouldn't have been in a position where the ref choking would affect them.

Stop crying and move on down the road.

If you don't think professional sports are rigged you have no ability to critically think.

People watch because rigged professional sports does not mean you still don't see amazing athletes to amazing things. These athletes being great athletes isnt rigged. But everything else is like outcomes.

These players make millions of dollars, they keep their salary if they are rigged to lose. It isnt like losing teams players make less money. It is no conspiracy it is just common sense that professional sports is just like WWE.

Yeah, the no-call on Lewis was bad, but the refs turned around and called PI on Barron first pass of OT that almost put the Taints at midfield, and they still blew it.

Great point here...I almost forgot about that blatant make up PI.
