Do we need a CB?

Y’all can argue DB vs DL till the cows come home but the real answer is in the money.  Who gets paid most on the defensive side of the ball?

After you you look at this list it’s pretty clear what’s valued more.

The relationship between the two isn't linear.  Its about having CBs that are good enough to allow your DL to do their job.  If your CBs constantly have to play off then it doesn't matter how good your line is.  Once your secondary can give you 3 secs then the quality of you DL will start to make a difference.

I guess that’s why not a single DB is in the top 10 or heck, even top 15.

The nfl clearly does not value dbs over dl.  The money says it all.

If the opposing QB is getting the ball out in 2.3s it really doesn't matter how good your D-line is.  Which most people would agree the Rams have one of the most talented D-lines ever.

Speaking of importance, with the NFL being tailored around offense I think teams need to place a little more importance on the 3rd corner.  Depending on who you are playing they are just as important as your two outside guys.  Also I would place a cover safety towards the top of importance also.

Unfortunately you could make the argument that we have a need with both.

Atlanta released Robert Alford. Wasn't worth big money, but would be interested in him.

Has experience playing outside and inside at CB. Pairing him with Bradberry and Jackson would give us a formidable CB squad, especially if Ross Cockrell can return and contribute

If we resign Eric Reid, draft another safety, and develop Gaulden we could have a potentially really good secondary

Would not be surprised if we drafted a safety with one of our 1st three picks. This would allow us to convert Rashaan Gaulden back to CB/nickel.

How well would he play nickel at the NFL level?  Just because he did that he college I'm not sure if he translates at the pro level.

Or we could draft an outside corner early, and move Jackson to slot.

Similar to WR, you must continue to upgrade the depth at this position. One of my draft rules, always spend a pick on WR. CB is one of the only positions that have great return value late in the draft. Panthers normally carry a low 4 CB and in my opinion, only have 2 good ones. So yes until they have 4 or 5 good ones, they have a need.

In regards to Alford, there might be a reason they are letting him go.

For the people who want him, what are you actually basing it off?  PFF score? film study? you watch all of Atlanta's games? or its just a name you notice

Im baking it on the fact that through the draft and/or FA, we still need another CB capable of starting. We have 2 in Bradberry and Jackson, but behind them we have Munnerlyn and Elder who are both trash. We are one injury after from disaster.

I'm not saying Alford is the answer, but he would be an immediate upgrade at the right price. Alford got cut bc of his contract, not bc he is completely washed up.

Plus, having a CB who has went up against Matt Ryan daily for last 4-5 years and knows his tendencies could be a good thing.
