I imagine that it has been discussed although I doubt it is the first choice. The choice of words suggesting we need cap space at least indicates cuts will  be made. Would it cause an uproar if we signed Foles as his replacement? Mere speculation at this point

Yes.. Foles is getting alot of credit for being a bench warmer most of his career..

I think the smart thing to do looking at this from the outside in. Would be to draft a guy to play QB and learn Norv's system. A guy that Norv loves in college, idk who that guy would be but you'd have him playing all season theoretically until Cam's shoulder heals and he's back in the 2020 season. What happens from there depends solely on if we're able to win a Superbowl. Also on how quickly the backup progresses, if Cam drops off due to the number of hits he's taken or just can't stay healthy after a full year of rest then I think you move on. The guy you draft obviously wouldn't be in the first round as this would cause an inevitable Philly situation with salaries and such because first round QBs are pretty much guaranteed to make bank.

You're beyond clueless if you think we've discussed cutting Cam.   But I guess keep telling yourself we have discussed cutting him if that makes you feel better......

It doesn't make anyone feel better to think we might have to move on. But I am realistic and realize it will happen one day. I hope it is years down the road. But I am not going to bury my head in the sand and ignore what is unfortunately a real possibility. Especially given that Tepper doesn't have any past loyslties and wants to win now as well as in 2020 and down the road.

With the rookie salary cap the salary for last year's pick at 17- Derwin James on a 4 year contract was roughly 12 million or 3 million a year.  Cheap......

The OP just said lay out what you want to do— or what you would do in the situation. Trades, draft picks, whatever,..

most here don’t lay out anything as a solution or a want or put themselves out there,..

they just lay back like snakes and poke fun and holes in anything anyone else puts out.

such is the world.

I never even thought to look at this. Wouldn't that cause a serious uproar?? No way we should do it unless his shoulder has completely turned to roast beef, but IF WE WERE TO CUT HIM, now's the time financially.

Nobody cares about Cam according to @TheRed.  Whatever makes the team the most competitive the quickest....

Of course I am of the camp that says Rivera should go, but we are past that...so, does Cam sit a summer or a year?

Maybe winning the Superbowl last year and taking them into the playoffs this year might have something to do it also. His record as a starter is 26-18. In Philly it is 21-11.

Come on man— I get the haterade but then again I don’t. The guy has above 80 QBR and above 110 for QR for his time in Phily, 10-2 for games,... 4 of 5 playoff games and a Super Bowl.

Phily was like 4-6 when he took over for Wentz. It’s no accident that they elevated and went to the playoffs instead of tanking the rest of the way like we did.

Phily just wasn’t a good or complete team this year as last year so of course they were a long shot for the Super Bowl but he elevates people around him, X Factor.

hey Brett Favre even called out Phily to keep Foles over Wentz

Trent Dilfer lead 2 teams into the playoffs as well..  Winning a superbowl doesn't make you a great QB.. Sorry I just don't see the awe factor in Foles and think he's in a perfect situation now.. Reminds me of matt moore.. Great relief pitcher but don't count on him as a full time starter...

Will be quite a few people missing when the Cam era is over. Discussions may actually resume then.
Lots of people go missing in threads about other players/the team as a whole.

Such is life—

We all like that a little. I remember some years back I got on a Vikings board because of Brett Favre. They were all about winning but polarized of course— Favres and Cams and such will do that.

once his time in Minni was over— they weren’t interesting so that was that.

here it seems like people will just throw down an opinion either way— when it goes their way— flame away— when it doesn’t they either flip flop or they disappear.

i love having Cam and have been a Cam fanatic since his Alabama Auburn game, the first that I watched front to back,.. thought he was it for us.

he has been. However just like the Favres and eventually the Brady, their time is over. Will they be New England fans still when Belicheck and Brady are replaced by a Dan Quinn and a Tannehill for example?

no— they will run to other teams.

it will happen here too when cams gone.

ive been a Carolina fan since we broke the expansion team record with a 7-9 start,...

its all good

Cutting Cam is not likely, but the Panthers need to be prepared in the event Cam can't answer the bell. That means an experienced vet needs to be brought in to compete with Allen, if things don't break the way we would like.

Allen played against the Saints first-team defense, although they were surely uninspired. Keep in mind, no one has much of a book on Allen, so he hasn't faced a team that has game-planned against him. I would say it's likely he's a league-average, if not below league-average QB next year. Spend some money on a couple of road graders and try to shorten the games. Bring in a vet RB to split some carries with CMC (maybe someone like a CJ Anderson...whoops!). We may see some rather low-scoring games, at least from the Panther's end, next year.

I'd dare say that Cam not being available next year would make it easier for the Panthers to let go of their core vet group (Olsen, Peppers, etc.).
