Your call...being competitive in 2019

A few things we do know. Cam has some sort of injury that will or will not heal on it's own. Need to find more cap space somehow to fill a depleted roster. Our draft position and all the possible picks that may or may not be available. The band is still together with minor coaching  changes.

Break out the magic 8 ball and lay out a plan that could at least keep this team competitive in 2019. Is there a way to have a winning record with all the needs and with this coaching staff?

Cutting Cam saves 15 million. Dumping Kalil saves 7 million and restructuring Luke could save up to another 7 million. That doesn't include Munnerlyn and other cuts. We could free up another 30 million relatively easily. Even if we keep Cam we could consider restructuring his contract to save cap room this year if we thought he was the long term solution but couldn't play in 2019.

I never even thought to look at this. Wouldn't that cause a serious uproar?? No way we should do it unless his shoulder has completely turned to roast beef, but IF WE WERE TO CUT HIM, now's the time financially.

I imagine that it has been discussed although I doubt it is the first choice. The choice of words suggesting we need cap space at least indicates cuts will  be made. Would it cause an uproar if we signed Foles as his replacement? Mere speculation at this point

Likely not but remember Tepper doesn't have the same emotional attachment that fans and Richardson had.  It is surely not moronic to consider the possibility if his condition is chronic and we don't see him as the long term solution.

Cam was having the best of year of his career until the steelers.    The whole situation sucks.

Can’t really comment on Cam until I know for sure what’s going on. If it’s the doctors opinion that he can come back full strength but just needs rest then install a viable backup plan behind him. If there’s no possibility that Cam can come back and be competitive then I hate to say it but he has to go.

 

Hurney can free up cap space by cutting Kalil, Captain and others. It’s possible that we can get a couple decent FA’s.

But of course our competitiveness depends on Cams shoulder

I love all these over the top responses to Cam fans being confronted with the real possibility that we might have to move on from Cam if his condition doesn't improve. This should tell you who are Panther fans discussing the possibilities versus fans who only care about Cam. Again I don't think this is the team's preference but exploring all possibilities means it has been considered.

Sure Allen's performance was against a team that was resting starters and had nothing to gain but the fact he looked so good was actually not great for Cam. It suggested that we might not need Superman to run this quarterback friendly offense and could be productive with someone else. Prior to this Cam had to carry the offense but with increased offensive talent and fixing the O line, other guys could be successful in this system. Even a potential rookie.

  We aren’t going to be competitive next year anyhow. With or without Cam. Might as well tank, All the pieces are in place to do it. Just sit back and let it happen.

oh no I don't care if Cam leaves lmfao but you think they are thinking about cutting him? Like you think he's gonna get cut this offseason

lol why do you say that captain insecurity? If that shoulder has no chance to be 100% again, we going to overpay for a quick spread offense QB that's one hit away from total death? I don't think we will, but most of us thought our GM and HC would be gone by now and look what happened. 

To answer OP's question, it's worth it to tank next year. This team doesn't really tank, but if we save money and let contracts play out especially if FA and draft class for certain positions aren't there then so be it.
